I will be publishing a synopsis of my findings and theory in "The Curtis Chronicles" newsletter in December. I believe we have very good reason to believe that old Jonathan Curtis was one and the same as the one from Burlington County, NJ. I have no direct proof yet but do have a good circumstantial case. Jonathan was born 1675, gave a deposition in Cecil County, MD in 1719 and migrated down through Maryland to settle in Berkeley County, WV. I know that descendants through your James went west to OH but many of his descendants through Samuel Curtis (either a son or grandson) went to the Yadkin River area of western NC. I have a lot of information on the NC branch. According to one researcher old Jonathan Curtis was married to Mary Throckmorton. I have reason to believe he was in the Harford County, MD (Deer Creek just across the Susquehanna River from Cecil County) after leaving Cecil County. He may also have been in the Pipes Creek Settlement area of Maryland a little further west. Pipes Creek is a tributary of the Monocacy River now in Frederick County, MD and many of the families who settled in Frederick County, VA/Berkeley County, WV were there before moving into VA. I need to get to Maryland to do further research. Ruth

Dear N. Brewer, I have information from a book on New Castle County, DE which tells about how this CURTIS family was involved in the Curtis Paper Mill Company. If you have this already I won't type it up for you but will do so if you don't have it. It is very interesting and there may be some connection to my CURTIS line although I think mine is the Burlington County, NJ one of Thomas Curtis and his son Jonathan, b. 1675. Ruth Gravitt
