    1. Re: [CURTIS]  Haller G. Curtis 1900
    2. Thanks! I admit, I hadn't yet looked Haller up in the census. In the margin of the obit my grandmother had written "great-grandson of William and Ann Hocking Curtis", so I know that this man is related to me. I have hit a major brick wall with William and Ann Curtis, and am hoping that someone in another branch of the family will recognize Hallers name and maybe have family information to share. Thanks for the census information, though! I have a couple of Fred Curtis' in my gneealogy, and now I can place Haller to the correct Fred (the one born in England). Thanks again. Allison Carver

    1. [CURTIS] Sylvanus Curtis
    2. Hope this is benefit to someone researching the Sylvanus Curtis line.... Gay, Julius Old houses in Farmington : an historical address Hartford, Conn.: Press of the Case, Lockwood & Brainard Co., 1895, 20 pgs. Page 18. ..."We will halt under the big elm tree, which overhangs the house where Manin Curtis spent his life, long enough to say that his father, Sylvanus Curtis, in the company of Phinehas Lewis in 1762, the year in which Sylvanus was married, brought home from a swamp three elm trees. One was planted on the back of Elm Tree Inn, one in front of the house of Mr. Curtis, and the third failed to live. The big elm tree is, therefore, 133 years old. On the corner stands the house, much improved of late, built in 1786 and 1787 by Capt. Judah Woodruff, for Major Peter Curtiss, a Major in the Revolutionary War, who removed to Granby in 1700, and was the first keeper of the reconstructed Newgate Prison, leaving it in 1796 in declining health, and dying in 1797." 3. Your dates are a bit confusing (a typo?), but this is the only Tucker in Porter Co. Could be Guessman or Grueneman, hard to read. Might be a relative or in-law? --- BCR738290@aol.com wrote: > Looking for the ancestry of Alonzo Curtis born > abt 1860 in Wheeler Twp, > Porter Co, IN. 1. [CURTIS] Fisher Curtis b.c. Nov 14, 1779, of Onondaga, N.Y.
    2. L. Herman
    3. Hello, I am hunting for relations of my Thomas Curtis b.c..1755. I believe Thomas is one of the Wetherfield Curtis'. He lived in Vermont prior to the Revolutionary War and probably Rhode Island before that. After the Revolutionary War he went to Canada. Thomas died in 1809. I have been trying for 7 years to identify Thomas to no avail. I have thought it might be possible to trace Thomas' roots by following another Curtis. John Love Curtis b.c. 1820 in Cayugua County, New York, was living in Warkworth with John Curtis, son of Thomas in 1842. John married Elizabeth Spencer and sometime after 1861 moved to Kent County, Michigan. John was the son of William Curtis and Jane Love who married May 16, 1807. They had three other children we know of: Samantha Curtis b. Feb 14, 1810 FISHER CURTIS b. Nov 20, 1812 and died the same time Charles Curtis b. Feb 14, 1814 The rest of the page in the family bible is torn off and missing. However, Fisher Curtis is a rather uncommon name and I am guessing that William's son Fisher would have been named after Fisher Curtis of Onondaga (where Thomas Curtis and his family were suppose to have lived for a short time). It is my understanding that Fisher was the son of Sylvanus Curtis 1739-1818 and Jemima Norton. I would like to know more of Sylvanus' family, both his family of origin and his married family. I am wondering if William could have been a brother or a cousin. So far I find brothers Solomon, Frederick, Eleazer and Gabriel but know nothing of their families. It appears that Sylvanus and his brothers were sons of Daniel Curtis b. April 29, 1715 in Wethersfield and wife Rebecca. Daniel died 1783. My information is sketchy but Daniel is son of Joseph Curtis and Dorothy Edwards. I would very much appreciate any help anyone might be able to give. Cheers, Linda Herman Maryland

    3. Hello, I have been researching my Curtis line for over 7 years and am STILL as much in the dark about Thomas Curtis as I was when I started. Thomas was born in the states about 1755......I believe he is part of the family of Thomas of Wethersfield but I cannot trace his parents. He names his children Submit, Stephen, Anna, Thankful, Comfort, Phebe, John, Thomas, and Hiram. These are names that are found in the families of James Curtis and Margaret Davis and of John Curtis and Margaret Davis (Margaret married her brother-in-law, John, after her husband James died). Two sons of John and Margaret, John and Comfort are in Vermont at the time of the Revolutionary War. There is a Thomas Curtis there also and I think it is Thomas b.c. 1755. I cannot find out anything about him though other than he owned property there from 1774 until 1785. Thomas married twice; first to Valonia who died somewhere between 1792 and 1797; second he married Lucy Cheney (widow of unknown Cummings). Harlow Curtis, an earlier Curtis researcher had believed that Lucy had married John Curtis, Comfort's brother but this is incorrect. She is buried in the Curtis Cemetery where our family lived. The family of John and Comfort (including their father and mother) came to Vermont from Rhode Island. It is likely then that Thomas was also in Rhode Island prior to being in Vermont. Margaret Davis and her first husband, James Curtis had a son named Stephen Curtis b. May 10, 1735. I think this may be the father of Thomas....Thomas names his first son Stephen BUT I can find nothing more on Stephen than that he was born and raised by his mother and his uncle (who became his step-father). Thomas Curtis migrated to Upper Canada about 1800 and lived in Warkworth, Percy Twp, Ontario. He died there about 1809. Lucy remarried. Her children Benjamin, David, Mary "Polly" lived in Warkworth and are buried there. Thomas also settled there and I have been able to trace each line to the present day. HOWEVER...who Thomas was still eludes me......I am so, so stuck. I have no idea of where to go or how to go about it. I have done everything I can think of. Can anyone help? Thanks, Linda Herman Maryland
