Gloria, DNA evidence has, I believe, proven my theory that Jonathan Curtis of the Bugbrooke, Northamptonshire Curtis family of Thomas Curtis was related to the John Curtis who married Ann Revell. A descendant of John and Ann Curtis submitted his DNA and it matched two NC Curtis descendants who my research indicates were descendants of Jonathan Curtis of Berkeley County, WV. We are waiting for results from a descendant of Jonathan Curtis of Berkeley County, WV to further prove my theory that this Jonathan Curtis was one and the same as Jonathan Curtis of Burlington County, NJ. BTW, Burlington County is in West Jersey. Ruth

I did look for the two NGSQ articles by Cook which you mentioned. It has been a few years but as I recall I could only find one of them (not the 1960 one). I will look again next time I am at the library. I have been working with Dick Curtis on a CURTIS DNA project. A male descendant with the Curtis surname who seems well documented to be descended from the John Curtis who married Ann Revell had his DNA compared with a Joshua Curtis RWS who was from Wilkes County, NC and who died in Davidson County, TN in 1818. They matched perfectly, as well as with my known male Curtis cousin of Winston County, AL. Joshua Curtis was, according to my massive amount of research and circumstantial evidence (although I don't have the exact lineage pinned down) a grandson of Jonathan Curtis of Berkeley County, WV. Also, Jonathan Curtis of Berkeley County, WV was one and the same as Jonathan Curtis of Burlington County, NJ (brother to the Primitive Baptist minister Rev. Thomas Curtis who married Alice Merrill). We will soon have the DNA sample from a descendant of this Berkeley County, WV Jonathan Curtis and if it matches the other three I will consider this further proof of my theory. I would be interested in whether your conclusion is based on anthing other than the articles by Cook and also on what he based his conclusion. I will check again with my collaborating researcher who arranged for her cousin to submit his DNA to make sure we are talking about the John Curtis who married Ann Revell. If this is correct and if my theory is correct, the Northamptonshire, England line of Thomas Curtis (friend of George Fox and mentioned in his autobiography) was the ancestor of both John and Jonathan. Could it be that there was indeed a relationship between the Derbyshire and Northamptonshire CURTIS that has been previously unknown? Ruth
Ablibris Publishers have published a new ebook entitled "Graystone - The Curtis Connection" by Anthony Finlay. The book covers more than 300 years of Curtis family history and their ancestral estate of Graystone in Ireland, current home of a former Irish Prime Minister. The book is 205 pages long and can be found in the Biography Section on the Ablibris website - www.ablibris.com. It retails for £4.99. A free chapter is available to "browse" the e-book. I would be very grateful if you would draw the above to the attention of your readers - I apologise if this email breaches any etiquette of your group. Sincerely Martin Ellis (Editor Ablibris) PS below is a brief synopsis of the book: The fascinating history of one family's journey from rural Ireland to service in the SAS! Sometimes funny, sometimes touching, always entertaining. From the 1660s in Ireland to the present meet some of the colourful characters of the Curtis family. Austin Curtis (called "The Settler") moves to Ireland about the time of Cromwell's reign, from his home in England and becomes, despite his being a staunch Protestant in a Catholic country, a prosperous farmer and land owner. His sons and their descendants experience mixed fortunes, largely due to a certain prodigality and (in some cases) an unconventional love life. Some however were prudent and did well. Religious tensions come between father and sons on occasion when the sons wish to marry Catholics and the father, being Protestant, is opposed. Making a will is likewise fraught with difficulty when there are filial tensions. Mainly the family is prosperous but does go through hard times. A fortunate win on the Irish lottery comes to the rescue of the family, preventing the sale of the large family home, to which they would otherwise be condemned. Several Curtises perform heroic acts: rescues at sea and on land. One descendant of Austin the Settler prospects for gold in South Africa, in the course of which he suffers a tragic accident. Later, life on mainland Europe beckons but results in mixed fortunes, materially and morally. The Boer War is seen graphically throught the eyes of Lt Curtis: the suffering of vanquished and of victor. The war brings heartbreak to Lt Curtis when his sweetheart dies of fever in South Africa. Another descendant, Walter convicted of a (technical) felony is transported to Australia where he eventually becomes a successful farmer. At one stage he digs for gold but unearths only a dull heavy white metallic substance, thought useless at the time but whose tremendous importance was much later discovered. Vividly, the Great War comes to life as experienced by Matthew Curtis. Austin's latest descendant, Richard, recalls National Service exploits and SAS training and experiences.

I've gotten, though, some updates to all of our work on the Curtis-Revell family--and I'm in the midst of typing it all in--shall send you a copy (unfortunately, it won't have an index at this point, since that takes TOOOO long to accomplish). Are you at same address? I've put all of the descendants--including your info and some info I found on your branch. Gloria
Dear Jack, I am working with Dick Curtis to recruit CURTIS descendants for the DNA study. We already have a descendant of John Curtis who m. Anne Revell and to my delight the results confirmed the theory I developed after several years of intensive research--that this CURTIS line of Burlington County, NJ (Thomas Curtis b. about 1600 and a friend of George Fox) is related to Joshua Curtis RWS of Wilkes County, NC, Washington County, TN and Davidson County, TN as well as to my CURTIS cousin in Winston County, AL. My theory also involves a Jonathan Curtis who would have been a nephew of your John Curtis if my information based on the research on others is correct. This Jonathan Curtis was the brother of a Primitive Baptist minister Rev. Thomas Curtis who died in Baptistown, NJ about 1749 if my memory serves me here. Jonathan Curtis left NJ sometime after 1706 and in 1719 was living in the Cecil and Baltimore County, MD (probably Deer Creek area which is now Harford County). By 1735 he was in Orange County, VA and died in Berkeley County, WV around 1757. His son or grandson was (I think, no proof yet) Samuel Curtis who went to the Yadkin River area of western NC and was part of the Sandy Creek Baptist community in Rowan County, NC. He was a Regulator as were many in this community, which means he was a part of the pre Revolutionary movement. We will soon have the DNA results of a descendant of this Jonathan Curtis of Berkeley County, WV and hopefully this will further confirm my theory. Ruth Gravitt

Looking for infomation on GEORGE CURTIS born about 1820 in New York. Married CECILIA E. Unknown. Known Children from census information are HESLIFE(?) W., ADALINE, CHARLES H. and GEORGE H. Also two other girls A.L. and S.A. born in Iowa. George is in Iowa in 1850 in Linn County, Fayette District. His wife, and children Heslife and Adaline shown born in Ohio. Cannot find him in 1860 or 1870. By 1880 he is in Kansas in Chautauqua County, Little Caney Township. I am trying to find out if he had a daughter who married a M.K. Hinkle in Kansas in about 1883/84. She would have been deceased by 1897 as this is when M.K. Hinkle's first wife died, so his second wife shows up on 1900 census. Trying to determine if this unknown Curtis is the mother of M.K. Hinkle's oldest daughter who was born in 1897. Any info on this Curtis family would help so much. I searched for cemeteries in the area, and as you can imagine, there were quite a few. I chose ONE...Oakwood Cem. in Warsaw, IN...wrote them a letter asking if she was buried there and faxed it...this morning I received a fax back, and it is her....even lists my g-grandfather as her husband so I am certain.
