    1. They called him John Ross Curtis
    2. Hello All, When all else fails start eliminating. I am still trying to locate information on my great-uncle, John Ross Curtis. Appears he was born February 1891, Clark County Illinois. Last information I can locate is on the 1910 Indiana census, Vigo County (Terre Haute), with his parents. He was the son of John Greenwell Curtis and Julia Ann Routt, both of Clark and Clay counties Illinois. He was also the brother of Nellie 1883-1933, Rice 1892-1971 and Deloris 1896-1958. Nellie, Rice and Deloris all died in Terre Haute (Vigo) Indiana. John Ross also had two half-sisters, Lulu 1878-1950 (died in CA) and Isa b. 1879 (their mother Sarah Merritt). They were all born in Clark County Illinois. I'm listing similar 1920 census information on John Curtis. If you have information on any of them please let me know. 1. James CURTIS, shipbuilder, Hants, 1850
    2. Peter Gawn
    3. I'm researching shipbuilding at Fishbourne, Binstead parish, Isle of Wight, England in the 19th century. This was the List family business, Daniel LIST (1781-1868) being the master shipbuilder. He probably retired ca 1850 after some 40 years of successful production that seems to have made him a wealthy man. Shipping registers show that James CURTIS built two vessels at Fishbourne, in 1849 & 1852, possibly in conjunction with List. The 1851 Census Index for Binstead, published by the Hampshire Genealogical Society, shows what appears to be a family comprising James Curtis, age 59, born Southampton; Sarah, age 58, born Burseldon; and Alfred, 20, Alice Mary, 25, and Frederick, 23, all born Portsea (Portsmouth). The Census reference is HO/107/1664 page 011. There are no Curtis in the 1841 Census for Binstead. I am curious to know more about James Curtis the shipbuilder and how he came to be working at Fishbourne. Does anyone have any information about him? Thanks, Peter Gawn (Canada).
