Jan. 21, 1909 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. I don't have any info on her parents, but for some reason, I have her siblings listed with the last name of McMasters. When I first started doing my genealogy years ago, I added info to my family tree without adding where the info came from. It could be that maybe Sarah's mother married a 2nd time to someone named McMasters? The McMasters children were all born after Sarah. Sorry that I couldn't have been of more help. Joyce

Submitted by Lori J. (Powell) Wicks © September 2004 W. T. CURTIS W. T. CURTIS came from Ohio in an early day, making his home at Drytown. He was a man of fine culture, gentlemanly in manner, and much more disposed to advise a peaceful settlement of a difficulty than costly litigation. He usually made himself prominent in allaying, rather than fomenting, the riotous spirit which so commonly existed in the mining towns of an early day. He was especially prominent in mitigating the inexcusable anger of the population after the atrocious murders and Rancheria. He was a Republican in sediment and a candidate for district attorney on the same ticket which was headed by the name of John C. Fremont, in 1856. He stumped the county for Fremont, speaking in every place of any size. His candor and gentlemanly qualities were appreciated by France and opponents alike, and he was always in respectfully listen to. On the breaking out of the rebellion, he joined the Union Army as a to an officer in high rank. From the best information attainable! , he was killed early in the contest.

    3. Pauline: My Grandfather (or Grandmother) contributed a "bio" for the 1916 edition of the Encyclopedia of Massachusetts (Biograpical - Genealogical) printed by the American Historical Society (inc), New York, Boston, Chicago. I believe this was one of several companies that promised to produce a volume of outstanding persons of a community (including "you", if you paid them). In my grandfather's write up, it was stated that his great grandfather was "Minard (Myndert anglicized) Bogart, [who] died in Chatham, New York, a carpenter by trade. He married Catherine Curtis, born in Dutchess County, New York, [who] died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. [Harriet] Sumner I. Smith, in Whately, Massacusetts." We have determined that Minard was born in 1776, Catherine in ca 1889, an age difference of 23 years. (Was she a second wife?) The Bogart line is traceable to first immigrants to New Amsterdam. The Smith line is traceable to settlers of Whethersfield and Hadley. Have been unable to identify parentage of Catherine Curtis. 3. Hello, I am decended from a Holmes, a Curtis, and a Walter. They all lived in Lake Odessa, Michigan. Jane A. (possibly Almira?) Curtis, my ggrandfather Curtis's sister, married George Walter, my gggrandfather Walter's brother. However, Jane A. died about 1897, in fact on Mar 10, 1896. The granddaughter of this marriage was the oldest attendee at this years alumni reunion of Lake Odessa High School. I am related to her and her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren who all live within 20 miles of Lake Odessa. Jane A. Curtis Walter was the daughter of my ggggrandparents, Truman (Curtiss) Curtis and Mary Holmes Brewster Curtis. She had a younger brother Frank L. Curtis who was born Oct. 29th, 1863, who died Sept 6, 1872, aged 8 year, ten months & 8 days. I also knew Mertie E. Walter, the daughter of George Walter and Jane A. Curtis. She was born July,22, 1878. I know her grandson, Curt well. Truman and Mary Curtis moved from near Delta, Ohio, to Ionia County Michigan in 1867. ----- Original Message ----- From: <aholmes@remax.net> To: <CURTIS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 23, 2004 6:45 AM Subject: [CURTIS] Re: Almira Curtis and George Walter, 1897, wedding photo > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/TmQ.2ACIB/2145.1.1.1.1 > > Message Board Post: > > No > > > ==== CURTIS Mailing List ==== > Archives address: > <http://archiver.rootsweb.com/> >

    1. Curtis Family of Hunterdon Co., N.J.
    2. kathie Kirkpatrick
    3. Dear Grannygoose, I too am researching the Hunterdon Co., N.J. Curtis family. My ancestors include David Curtis b.1745 m. Elizabeth Smith 1766 in Monmouth Co.. Their son, David Curtis Jr. b. 1804 m. Rebecca Rodenbaugh. I have been trying to discover if Jonathan Curtis was father or brother to my David Sr. I am unable to find the parents of David Sr. I know the family were members of the Presbyterian Church in Clover Hill, N.J. David Jr. and his sons were associated with the Baptist Church in Baptisttown, N.J. The original minister of this church was a relative. The line is somehow linked to the original Quaker settlers of Burlington, N.J. and Philadelphia. If only I could confirm the association with the family through the parents of David Sr. Did the family of your Jonathan live in Monmouth Co.? Were they somehow associated with the Quakers? Did they farm anywhere near Clover Hill? Were they associated through the Smith family of Elizabeth? Mary Curtis was probably a sister to David and perhaps, Jonathan. Usually the Executor of a will was the husband or son-in-law of the deceased if he had no sons. At least I have found that to be true in my research. My grandmother, Eva Curtis Warner compiled a list of the children of David Jr. and Rebecca who were her grandparents. They had a daughter named Celinda Elizabeth Curtis b. April 30, 1836, and who had a daughter named Jane. I do not have a married name for Celinda. Could it be that Abel Johnson was married to Celinda? David and Rebecca had 11 children and 54 grandchildren. All or most of the grandchildren were born before 1900. Among them, I find no Christina. Could "Christina" be a nick name or middle name? What is her birth year? It was fun to read your email. I have been researching the Curtis family for years. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could find a connection that would answer questions for both of us? Please keep me informed as you progress with your research. Perhaps you have some record of Celinda's genealogy.
