Surnames: CURTIS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/TmQ.2ACIB/1817.1.1 Message Board Post: These old board postings are wonderful--one just never knows when someone will respond! My Curtis information came to my mother from a fellow named Harlow Curtis back in 1941. He cites File 1062 Surrogate Court, Oneida Co., NY for Chloe Curtis; probate file 1069 Oneida Co., for Jairus Curtis; the 1850 census; and Kirkland Cemetery. What he gave my mother is that Samuel (1 Feb 1747-16 May 1833) settled at Clinton, Oneida Co.NY about 1794; that he married on 18 Feb 1779 Tryphene (dau of David Foote and Hannah Bronson), she died 15 Aug 1817 at Clinton (where also Samuel died. They had: 1. Ittai (b. about 1780, died between 1850 and 1858). 2. Stephen W. (b.1782, d. 24 Nov. 1829; m. Sarah Foote.) with the note that he was PROBABLY a child of Samuel and Tryphene. 3. Chloe, d. 20 Feb 1845 Kirkland (next to Clinton). 4. Elsie Serene, b. about 1789, d. 16 Feb 1839 Kirkland. 5. David W. died between 1842 and 1845. He married 3 October 1813 Elsa or Ursula Stephens at Ashtabul Co., OH. (these are my ancestors). 6. Jairus G. b. about 1790, d. 18 Jan 1856; no spouse info, perhaps never married. 7. Sarah (Sally), b. about 1792, living in 1856 at Kirkland. 8. Patty, b. about 1796 in NY, living in 1858 (a lunatic). How do you fit in? wendellhuffman@hotmail.com

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: CURTIS Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TmQ.2ACIB/2286 Message Board Post: "The Kansas City Post" (Missouri) Friday, February 28, 1908 KILLED IN CAR ACCIDENT. Herbert GLENN, 1610 East Twenty-sixth street, a helper at the Eighteenth street car barn, was killed in a street car accident at Eighteenth street and Jackson avenue at 8 o'clock last night. Several other people who were passengers on the car on which GLENN was riding were shaken up and injured, but not seriously. GLENN was riding on the front step of an extra Indiana car northbound on Jackson avenue. John WALKER, foreman of the car barn, was acting as motorman. The air brakes refused to work on the long slope on Jackson avenue north of Twentieth street and at Eighteenth street where the track turns, the car left the track, plunged over the curbing and stopped against an embankment. GLENN jumped and was killed when he struck an electric light pole. Another similar accident happened three hours later at St. John and Hardesty avenues when a Northeast car left the track, ran along on the pavement for forty feet and struck the front of a drug store owned by Frank ALCORN, completely wrecking it. Dr. J. C. BALL, 5622 Scarritt avenue, a passenger on the car, was seriously injured and B. A. CURTIS, the conductor, was badly bruised and cut by being thrown against the side of the car. ====================================================== (I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate knowing if you found this posting helpful.) johnobrien@kc.rr.com ====================================================== neirbo5

    2. Hi You wouldn't by any chance have anything in your files about Tapley Curtis b. c1807 NC died after 1880 in Ark. I have been told that he might be the son of Daniel Curtis, c1784, son of Samuel b Feb 9 1750 parents of Samuel were Nathaniel and Susannah Thomas. I can't prove any of this but would sure love to have contact with someone who knows parentage of Tapley. Tapley is in Autauga County Ala. in 1840 census, in Ark. in 1850. Thanks for any help Jennie556@aol.com

    2. Just read, in the April 2005 issue of Motorhome, a short article about the "National Hall of Fame for Famous American Indians" located outside Anadarko, OK. It asked the question of "Who was Sequoyah, Black Beaver and Charles CURTIS." It goes on to say, "stop by this museum and find out. Phone number is: 405-247-5555. Thought I would point this out in case anyone was looking for Charles....... Mike Curtis
