I am new to the list and am in search of some Curtis connections. The particular branch of the huge CURTIS family that I am researching called Croydon, Surrey, England home in the 1880's. Other surrounding areas in which I have found information about this family are Lambeth Surrey, Norwood Surrey and Saham Norfolk. Taken from the 1901 England census Database: 1901 England Census ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Name Estimated Birth Year Birthplace Relationship Civil Parish County/Island View Image James Curtis abt 1861 Croydon, Surrey, England Head Croydon Surrey James Curtis abt 1885 Kennington, Surrey, England Son Croydon Surrey John Curtis abt 1890 Croydon, Surrey, England Son Croydon Surrey William Curtis abt 1893 Croydon, Surrey, England Son Croydon Surrey Ada Hogsden abt 1892 Lambeth, Surrey, England Duar Of Above Croydon Surrey Mary Hogsden abt 1868 Dulwich, Surrey, England Housekeeper Croydon Surrey There was also one daughter, Ethel Curtis (1887), who was working in Middlesex as a maid at the time of the survey. James's (1861) wife Matilda (Mead) Curtis died about 1893 - a date which coincides with the birth of her fourth child, William. John (1890) and Ethel (1887) immigrated to Manitoba, Canada in the early 1900's. James (1885) died when the British munitions ship the Vanguard blew up at Scapa Flow, Scotland in July 1917. He was survived by his wife Charlotte Curtis. Because neither son John nor daughter Ethel kept in touch with family in England I have no idea what became of the youngest son, William. Here's hoping someone has some information on these Curtis's. John (1890) was my grandfather. I would especially love some info. on James' wife Charlotte and youngest child William. Best regards, Karen (Curtis) Bartlette BC, Canada

Not positive on her given name. Looking for information on my gg-aunt. Here is the scant information that I have on her. Isa Curtis, born July 1879 Illlinois (Could her given name be Isabelle, Isabel, Isabella??) The only record I can find on her is the 1880 census material. Her father John Greenwell Curtis had remarried to Julia Routt in 1882. Living in Martinsville Illinois (Clark Co.) during the 1880 census with parents John Greenwell Curtis, age 29, and Sarah Merritt, age 25. Also listed on the census is a sister Lulu, born 1877-1878. (Lulu m. Ezekiah "Cecil" Chapman ca. 1900 and lived in California from at least 1913 until her death in 1950.) If you think you may have a lead on Isa Curtis, would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks for your time, Cathy

Hi, I am trying to track the brother, Jonathan, of Rev. Thomas Curtis of NJ. My ancestor is David Curtis b.1763. He is related to the Rev. but not one of his sons. My David lived in Baptisttown and is buried in the Baptist Church graveyard along with Thomas and the family. Because I have sought David through all of the Burlington lines and found nothing, I believe he is a nephew of the Rev. and perhaps the son of brother Jonathan. Do you have any records re:Jonathan b.1674? The Rev. Thomas was b.1684. I know that their father, Thomas b.1635 died in 1688 in Burlington. Jonathan may have moved "west" with other family members. If you have any information to share, I would be grateful. Thank you in advance. The Burlington/Monmouth Co. NJ CURTIS family came into America directly to Burlington WestJersey in the mid-1600s (Quakers)---by 1800, some were moving South & some Westward, or into the cities of NY & Philadelphia. Your Elijah Curtis, who married another NewEnglander, may have descended from the CURTIS brothers who came in through Boston in the 1600s. Have you checked the holdings at NewEnglandHistoric&Gen.Society? Being here in Boston, I wish I had more NewEngland lines which removed to NJ, since NEHGS is has such an excellent collection (also, on-line for members) for New England records. Good Morning, Are they talking about closing this site down? I haven't been doing much research, but I am on the list. I have posted messages at the site. Is the site below where I can read about when and why they are going to do away with the archives? Thanks, Betty W. of Guernsey Co. Oh. (Related to the Curtis clan) Hi, all, Please take a moment of your time to sign the petition to save the National Archives and Records. http://www.savearchives.org/ I went to the site found good information and signed. I NEED access to NARA and am against anything that will endanger our ability to access its files! ==== CURTIS Mailing List ==== Archives address: <http://archiver.rootsweb.com/>
