    2. North Carolina Taxpayers 1701-1786 Compiled by Clarence E Ratcliff published by Genealogical Publishing Co Inc, 1984. "The object of this present volume is to set down in writing, while research is fresh, a list of those persons paying poll taxes or property taxes sometime between the years 1701 and 1786. For genealogical purposes, of course, the intent is to identify individuals in relation to a specific time and place, and to make public a class of records likely to assist in the advancement of research. "The majority of the names given here were copied from tax lists microfilmed at the NC state archives in Raleigh (roll numbers 155.108 and 155.49). Supplementing this basic list, and integrated throughout the text, are names which have been extracted from The North Carolinian, afterwards called the Journal of North Carolina Genealogy and then simply North Carolina Genealogy, from which journal have also been taken names of persons owning headrights and landrights." The book lists last name, first name, county, and year The following names are listed (names typed the way they are from the book)(same name, different year does NOT mean it's the same person, though there is the possibility of it being so): CUP, Christopher -- Orange -- 1755 ************************************** Get a sneak peak of the all-new AOL at
