Surnames: Cummins Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VcQ.2ACEB/600.2 Message Board Post: Benjamin H., age 19, and James A., age 16, sons of Alfred and Mary A. Cummins, were members of Company K, 140th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. They both were killed in the celebrated charge of May 12, 1864, near Spotsylvania Court House. The information I have says Ben fell while pressing on in advance of his company and James fell mortally wounded in the same charge. James, according to a fellow soldier who was with him at the time said he was shot through both thighs. Ben enlisted in 1862 and James enlisted on March 29, 1864, less than two months before he was killed. Neither body was recovered. I hope this was of some interest to you.
