My ancestor John Sherman Cummings and his wife Alcinda (1809-1894) appear in every census from 1830 to 1870, sometimes in Caroline, Tompkins Co, NY, and sometimes in Candor, Tioga Co, NY. Their farm was probably between the two towns. In the 1865 NY State Census, John reported being born in Columbia Co, NY, and Alcinda may have been born there too. Both John and Alcinda were buried in Candor. Their children were Harriet E. (born 1830, married to Albert Hall), Emily Laura (born 1833, married to Moses Wesley Dudley), Mary (born abt 1835) and James E. (born abt 1838, wife's name was Susan). I also have some pertinent land records, cemetery records, and a copy of John's will.
