Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VcQ.2ACEB/622.1 Message Board Post: This is very interesting to me since Nicholas is my First Ancestor. He arrived in Virginia on the ship "The Guifte" from London in 1622 just a few months after most of the Colonist were slaughted by indians. He served 7 years as a servant for George Sardis, Treasurer of the Virginia Company. I suppose that is the way he paid for his passage. He was in the Muster of Va. Colonies living at Mr. Treasurer's Plantation. See "Hotton's List" pages 131-252. Nowhere do I have a mention of an Edward Cummins being with him. Please let me know where you found Edward and your line to Lucretia. Thanks, Sue

    1. [CUMMINS] Info on Nicholas Cummins and Ellenor Ellison
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VcQ.2ACEB/622 Message Board Post: In answer to a request by e.k.k@home.com that was posted 8/31/01 that e-mail could not find: Here is what I have: Nicholas and his brother, Edward, were sons of William Commyne who was born 1576 in Scotland. What makes this confusing is Edward was the first of the family to change his name to Cummins (probably when they came to America). Nicholas took the name Comins and stubbornly used that name throughout his lifetime. His daughter Elizabeth used the name Comins also. Nicholas was born 1602 in London, England, and died 1656 in York County, VA. He married Ellenor Ellison abt. 1621. She was born abt.1601 in Virginia and died abt.1660 in York County, VA. Their children were: Elizabeth Comins, born abt. 1632, who married Robert Harrison; and Nicholas Cummins Jr., born abt. 1636 in Virginia. Nicholas Jr. married Elizabeth Hooper 1657 in York County. Hope this gives you a lead on your question, I'd like to have more info on this link, too. Let me know, my e-mail is Rollaconrow@aol.com. My connection with the Cummins family is with my ggggrandmother, Lucretia Cummins, who married my ggggrandfather, Lemuel Stapleton, Nov. 14, 1839, in Perry County, Indiana.

My Martha gave birth to her 1st son in 1861, so she had to have been born in the 1830's or 1840's. Happy hunting, though! Jeff

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Cummins, Huggins, many others.... Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VcQ.2ACEB/621 Message Board Post: Upon searching for my kin I have found some information I am hoping someone can relate with and help me to clear up a couple of things- I know that my GGrandfather was James Rees Cummins of Greene County, PA who was married twice. I find him and his first wife in the 1880 census in Cumberland, Greene Co, PA: Rees age 46, Mariah age 36, son William J. age14, daughter Mary R. age 12, uncle Clement Curtice age 67, and mother Lidda age 74- am I comfortable in guessing that Lidda is nee Curtice?? Then I go to the LDS family search and run Rees Cummins- all I get is born 1834 and married abt 1858 to Ann- no parents names or places other than PA- are Mariah and Ann the same person? When I run parent search James Cummins and Ann the children William and Margaret R. with fitting dates and place come up. According to the records of James' second wife Lucinda Huggins, his first wife died 5 Oct 1886 and the second marriage occured 2 Jun 1892 and 5 children were born. And finally- I can get a James R. Cummins born to Mr Cummins and Elizabeth (nee unk) 1834 Cumberland, Greene Co, PA. There are many other children listed as well. So- is Lidda/Lydia (sp different in 1870 and 1880 census) another person from the Elizabeth or is she the same? And am I on the right line or just goose chasing?????? If anyone can help me associate or disassociate this family I would be very grateful! Thank you all. Have a great day/night, Kristin Cummins O'Laughlin Washington State, USA
