    1. [CULLER] Jeremiah Culler (1832-1875)--OHIO
    2. Bill Roehm
    3. My g-g-grandfather, JEREMIAH CULLER was born in 1832. He married SUSAN WISE and they lived in COLUMBIANA COUNTY, OH. They had seven children: William, George, Ida, Alonzo, Orvil, Eleanora, & John. Jeremiah was admitted to an insane asylum in 1875 in Cuyahoga County and died there 2 months after his admission. Records in Cuyahoga County show he was from CUMBERLAND. Assume this is the same city in Guernsey County, OH. I have been unsuccessful in trying to locate his grave site as well as his parents names. Anyone out there with a Jeremiah born ~ 1832?? Marlene

    3. Marlene, Although it is possible that your ancestor was born in Cumberland, OH, it may be more likely that he was from Cumberland County, PA. Many of the Culler families who migrated to OH, went shortly before 1850. The 1850, Ohio census will probably show his parents as he was most likely still living with his parents at the age of 18. From the Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio Published 1886, and web published by Ancestry.com: Jeremiah Culler, enlisted on 26 October 1861, as a Private, aged 28, in the Ohio 6th Cavalry Regiment, Company L. The company mustered in on 01 November 1861, and mustered out on 07 August 1865. Jeremiah's pension was filed for in Sept. 1888, by his widow, Susan Culler. You may find additional information on his family in his pension file which is available to order from the National Archives. http://www.nara.gov There may be more information on this unit at www.usgenweb.org/oh or at one of the "Ohio in the civil war" websites. You probably already have this, but the Ohio death records show the following for Susan Culler, died 07 March 1908, Widow, 65 years, died in Washingtonville, OH. Buried Oakdale. (not sure if Oakdale is name of Cemetery or town.) I have seen the Culler family in Columbiana Ohio previously, but am unable to locate who the researcher is at the moment. Perhaps there is someone else on the list who can help. Sally Gustafson Santa Barbara, CA sallyg@west.net
