>From "Old and New Westmoreland", by John N. Boucher. Vol. 4, pg. 1188 [exact transcript] ELIAS W. BROWNELLER - This is the name, as all Rostraver township knows, of one of the county's veteran farmers and most honored citizens. Mr. Browneller, whose farm is situated one mile east of Belle Vernon, can look back upon a most successful career as an industrial worker and a record of constant fidelity to the duties of citizenship. Frederick Browneller, grandfather of Elias W. Browneller, was born in Eastern Pennsylvania, and was the first of the family to settle in Fayette county, whither he went in 1820, making his home on the Thomas Blakely patent, Perry township. Mr. Browneller and his wife were the parents of the following children: Sarah, Margaret, William, mentioned below; Frederick, Elizabeth, Samuel, Susan and Henry. Frederick Browneller, the father, lived to be over eighty years of age. William Browneller, son of Frederick Browneller, was born in Somerset county, Pennsylvania, and was a youth when the family removed to Fayette county. He married, in 1825, Mary Konkle, and their children were: 1. Annie Maria, married James Culler, and in March, 1916, died in Westmoreland county at the age of eighty-six. 2. Rebecca, married John Zundel. 3. Elizabeth, married David Forsythe. 4. Sarah, became the wife of Stockdale Snyder, of Allegheny county. 5. Frederick, married Erzanna Springer, of Belle Vernon; he died at Belle Vernon. 6. Elias W., mentioned below. 7. Michael, a leading farmer and property owner of Perry Township; married Pauline Luper. 8. Margaret, married (first) Herman Luper, deceased; married (second) Adam Baker, and died near Greensburg. 9. Cyrus, married Belle McCabe, and died in January, 1916, in Perry township; he was a carpenter. The only survivors are Elias W. and Michael. The latter is now living in Fayette county. The mother of the family passed away at forty, and the father lived to the advanced age of eighty-six. Does anyone recognize this James CULLER who married Anna Maria? >From the Historic Pittsburgh web site at: http://digital.library.pitt.edu/pittsburgh/search.html Sally Gustafson Santa Barbara, CA sallyg@west.net
