Good morning. Here is a post, which came to the KOHLER list, that should be shared on all of these K_L_R lists due to spelling variations. Sally Gustafson <sallyg@west.net> asked: > if it was traditional to be married on a weekday > rather than a weekend in previous centuries? ---------- It was perfectly acceptable to have a large, formal wedding through the week even as late as 1975. From what I have been able to asertain, the only reason that most are held on weekends today is because of the workplace situation being different, along with the fact that so many women now have paying jobs. Here are a few CULLER marriages in the state of Ohio. All of these records are available at the County seat for the county in which the marriage took place and all of the records are available on microfilm at your nearest Family History Center. The database states that the date is the "marriage date," though it seems that a good many of the dates fall on a Thursday. Perhaps the date is actually the date the license was issued. I checked my great grandparents marriage record which was recorded in the family bible and it was on a Thursday, in 1877. Perhaps it is only in our recent times that marriages seem to take place on weekends. Would anyone else know if it was traditional to be married on a weekday rather than a weekend in previous centuries? CULLER, ABRAHAM J. Opps!! My error. While I AM the coordinator for many lists, this is not one of them. However, the problem with the unsubscribing has happened on nearly every list out there. Leslie (Bridges) Kohler
Good morning. The computer problems in Washington yesterday seem to have leaked into RootsWeb some- what. Many people were unsubscribed from many of the lists... *without* requesting that to happen. My address was even 'unsubbed' from several of the lists for which I am the coordinator, so I may have missed messages of importance. Feel free to contact me privately if you need my assistance. I am new to this list and I would like to introduce myself. My name is Manfred Härtel, I live in Germany and I am - you would never have guessed ;-) - a hobby genealogist. Most of my ancestors come from the area around Darmstadt in southern Hesse, Germany. I have a large set of geneological webpages, the main page is http://rz-home.de/~mhaertel/ahnen/ahnen.html . The most interesting ones may be the list of surnames at http://rz-home.de/~mhaertel/ahnen/ahnen_name.html , my large link collection at http://rz-home.de/~mhaertel/ahnen/ahnen_bookmarks.html and the list of my "brick walls" at http://rz-home.de/~mhaertel/ahnen/such.html (the last one is currently containing the surnames Bichsel, Bixel, Bötter, Böchsel, Büchsel, Büxeler, Buxcel, Eppstein, Frank, Freyburger, Friburger, Friedrich, Gärtner, Göttmann, Härtel, Jockel, Jost, Jungmann, Keller, Knebel, Krämer, Küpper, Lehr, Löhr, Mahr, Müller, Nicolai, Poth, Stumpf, Sturm, Weber, Weilmünster). If you find out that we are cousins, I would be happy to receive a mail from you. Best regards Manfred Härtel

Due to all of the spelling differences, I wanted to share the following with the various K_L_R lists. Well, I am very disappointed. After doing some investigation, I don't believe that the previous postings, which were listed by GenealogyLibrary.com as census records, are actually census records at all. The data seems to be compiled from several sources one of which seems to be ships passenger lists. That explains why the date was 1735 for Hans, Susanna and Jacob Koller/Coller. That is when they arrived in Philadelphia, on the Oliver. So we are no closer than we were before. However I am glad to have found the others with the Koller name from 1733. I located Hans Jurick Koller, 23. He was one of the Passengers imported in the Ship Hope, Daniel Reid, Master, from Rotterdam. Qualified August 28, 1733. Later listed as Hanns Jerg Kohler. It sure was fun while it lasted. Now I am back to hoping to find church records for the family wherever they settled after their arrival in Philadelphia. My apoligies for getting our hopes up. Sally
Hi Earlene, I noticed that Hans Koller and Susanna Koller, as well as Jacob Coller were all listed as being in Philadelphia Co. in 1735. The database did not mention where these actual census' are located but I would think that they would be in Philadelphia. If these could be located perhaps we could learn more about where the family was living in order to track them in future census'. I would also love to know more about this family and their descendants. This database seems to be only for Philadelphia County, PA. I guess that we need to determine when the various PA census were taken and try to follow the family. It is interesting to me that there are several KOLLER names for various years, including Hans Michael Koller, Hans Jacob Koller, and Hans Jurick Koller, as well as Maria Kolirin, all for 1733. I wonder if this was a family who immigrated earlier than Benedict Koller and his brother Hans. Could Hans and Susanna have gone on to PA from SC to meet up with this family who was already in PA? So many questions remain to be answered. Sally Gustafson Santa Barbara, CA sallyg@west.net
