Is there a connection of any kind with these Papy" immigrants to the Papy family of St. Augustine, Florida? The St. Augustine Papy's descend from Greek immigrant Gaspar Papi (1751-1817) and his Minorcan wife, Ana Pons (1762-1835). Both Gaspar & Ana were survivors of the ill-fated Turnbull Colony at New Smyrna, Florida. When the colony disbanded in 1777, Gaspar & Ana fled to nearby St. Augustine where they settled, prospered and died.Their descendants are numerous. A merchant in St. Augustine, it is possible Gaspar had business dealings in Cuba as both Florida & Cuba were Spanish possessions the latter part of his life. A Papy family history/genealogy is in the works. Any assistance would be tremendously appreciated. Sincerely, Greg C. White 3101 Mills Ridge Drive Canton, Georgia 30114 USA
