My parents are from eastern Cuba (El Oriente), and Pa told me a long time ago that an uncle of ours, Tomas Estrada Palma, was the first president of Cuba under a democracy. I still have many aunts, unclues, and cousins in Cuba, an I hope to go in April, God willing. My name is Lissette De Las Nieves Estrada Pereiro, and I was born in Madrid, Spain. My father, Carlos Roberto Estrada Fonseca, is from Bayamo, Cuba, and my mother, Nieves Alejandrina Pereiro Rodriguez, is from Guantanamo, Cuba. In the US, Ma is known as Nieves Estrada. But, I am betting Estrada Palma may not be such a distant relative for me---I just found out a dirty little family secret --I am now 33 years old, and my parents have no idea I know - that my paternal grandfather, Tomas Estrada, was what we call a descarado. He hooked up with 5 or 6 women, but was never really married to them. He had children with every one of them, and actually had over 32, maybe! 40 children or more. My aunt did not want to admit to the exact amount, but she says it was definitely more than 32. Abuelo Tomas died shortly after I was born in 1970 - he was about 93 years old. Abuelo Tomas was a judge in Cuba, and my paternal grandmother, Eduvijes Fonseca, was a housewife. I have two brothers, Carlos Roberto Estrada Jr, and Juan Manuel Estrada, who were both born here in the U.S. I was born in Spain. See ya, Lissy Estrada
