    3. I believe that since the U.S. became a Nation, traditionally, there has existed a very strong but subtle bias against Spaniards and Cubans in general, in the educational systems of the Nation, but particularly in the most influential levels of the American news media. The fact is that historical facts and events have been projected in a manner which projects in a very negative manner the actions of the Spanish "bloody conquistadores" vs. that of the English "settlers," which even shared a meal with the New England natives. Have you ever heard of the murder, also in New England, of 200 Indian chieftains with poisoned wine. Have you heard of the betrayal and murder of Chief Metacomet, in New England, and of Oscelo, in Florida? While for example portraying the "disappearance" of the members of the original Florida natives (the Appalachees, the Tequesta, the Calusa, the Freshwater Creek Indians, and the Ais) as a result of their contact with the Spaniards, what the facts demonstrate is that it was in the Carolinas, and probably in one specific mid-West campaign where native Americans were given articles contaminated with snallpox, in order to decimate their populations. There is also ample evidence that proves that many members of these tribes, who were still alive, emigrated with the Spaniards to Cuba in 1763, when Florida and Havana and its surroundings were exchanged between the Spanish and the British governments. I will take any opportunity given to me to to be able to correct erroneous historical data and notions, and this has been taking place for too many, but too many years. It is my intention to allow Anglo-Americans and other Americans to view and interpret the "new" evidence being made available, so that we can exist in a more favorable and friendly scenario. Please, understand that Minnesota is not Florida, of course. Oswaldo F. I have my reservations about this solicitation for interviewees. I am a very proud Cuban. Although I came to this country an infant in 61 and was for the most part raised in Wisconsin, then Florida... I am 100% Cuban. Proud and happy! Good luck if chosen, Maru -----Original Message----- From: Jrpinon47@aol.com To: CUBA-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Wed, 30 Mar 2005 11:44:01 EST Subject: Re: [CUBA-L] Seeking Cuban-American Interviewees for Documentary Film We would be happy to be considered! A few family facts that might be of interest. Both my wife and I were born in Cuba, came to the US in 1960 at the age of 12, met in Miami and married in 1968. We both graduated from the University of Florida. Four wonderful children born in Miami, but raised in Texas. I worked for 27 years for oil companies..Shell, Amoco and BP British Petroleum. Have lived in Texas off and on, between various domestic...New Orleans, Abilene, Philadelphia, Chicago postings, and two overseas ...Mexico City and Madrid postings. Our children now in their early thirties and late twenties are married, and have undergraduate and graduate degrees from US Universities, and have very successful lives. Have one each in NYC, NJ, Austin, Texas, and here in Miami. Their perspective and experience as "white" Cubans of Spanish heritage...one of my boys is blond/blue eyed....is interesting and diverse...especially their elementary-high school years in Texas. My daughter still remembers the day that in Elementary School she was called "Mexican". She came home crying wondering what was to be "Mexican". All of my four children are truly Americans...but very Cuban at the same time...two of them visited the Island a couple of years ago. Let me know if interested...
