The "expedientes" of Spanish soldiers in Cuba during the XIX colonial period are in the Archivo Historico Militar de Segovia. In my experience they have been very helpful in my searches and for a nominal fee they will copy and mail you the individual's military file. Address and telephone will be found in Cubagenweb.org.
