She died Jan. 26 at Meadowlands Hospital, Secaucus. Born in Ciego de Avila, Cuba, Alvarez came to the United States in 1959. She was a food server for the Union City Board of Education. Surviving is a daughter, Caridad Alvarez; two grandchildren, Lazaro and Robert; and two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Lazaro Jr. Jorge Rivera Funeral Home, North Bergen, was in charge.
