Born in Havana, Cuba, Mr. 2003 Saltalamachea moved to Manhattan when he was a boy of 5. He relocated to Brooklyn in 1966 and settled in New Dorp in 1977. Mr. Saltalamachea spent 30 years working as a truck driver for McClean Trucking and other companies. He was a member of Local 707, International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and served as a union delegate in the five years before he retired in 1993. His family said Mr. Saltalamachea was a physical fitness enthusiast and had played football as a youth. He still enjoyed watching football games later in life, and worked out frequently. His wife, Barbara, added that he was an avid reader and enjoyed drinking fine wine. Mr. Saltalamachea was a parishioner of Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church, New Dorp. In addition to his wife of 42 years, the former Barbara Pavano, surviving are his son, Rick; his daughter, Linda Krute; two brothers, Albert and Charlie; a sister, Nicky Malandrino, and two grandsons. The funeral will be Monday from the Richmond Funeral Home, Grant City, with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
