Considering that at the times there was not such thing as the "cuban colonial context", the meaning of the phrase (spanish, at worst) notario del rey, meant "escribano" a sort of Registrar appointed to the service of the King. (Escribanos wrote accounts of doings, accounts of everything that happened in the Colonies, including births, deaths, promotions. grants of lands, appointments by the provincial governors, etc. They wrote their Actas (documents) in 5 copies, and these were distributed to the differente Archives. 1 to de Archives of Indies, 1 to the Vice-Roy, 1 to the Province, 1 to the "interested parties" and 1 (sometimes, remained in the book of the notary: "anotador".
