I was searching for over two years for relatives from Cuba and it was an exercise in futility. I've recently hit a wealth of knowledge and attribute it to a few things I did differently, and I'll share my tips with you. - Use Google Books (books.google.com). Google has partnered with libraries and universities around the world to scan and make available online books, census information, troop rosters, lists or random things - everything. Limit your language results to Spanish only. The Spanish kept very good records in Nueva Espana and every day more and more of these records are coming online. - US Public Records only go so far. I started limiting my google searches to Spanish results only and long lost relatives started popping up everywhere. I never figured out why English searches didn't yield the same results. - Learn Spanish - finding the results is easy, interpreting is hard. Good luck! Interesting idea--but how do you Google in Spanish? Or how do I limit my language results? Thanks for the help.
