    3. Another profession I recently came across during the diligent and never ending study of my ancestors is "librero".  The curious thing is that this was a man who married in Havana in 1608.  My understanding is that all of Cuba in in the year 1600 had no more than 50,000 souls and that furthermore, Havana was really no more than a place of transit for the fleet.  We can easily deduce that, to say the least, not everyone was literate.  On top of that, how many books were being printed in Spain around that time?  Yes, Quixote, I know, but how many more? Thus, is "librero" bookseller, as it would be today, or did it have another connotation (like book-keeper, perhaps).  Does anyone know the answer to these questions? gracias, Mike desde Long Island.
