Yes, Cuban Genealogy Club is alive and kicking! They publish a very nice "newsletter" or revista called Raices de la Perla and hold periodic meetings that are a lot of fun. If I remember correctly, one of the members found his Capote in that index. Do you have the exact date for Alejandro's birth? I wouldn't dismiss the lead even if the dates are not quite right.
