Some Jaruco Ommisiones con Agramonte, Betancourt: While researching the Betancourt-Agramonte family connected to my wife's gr grandfather don Ignacio Maria de Varona y Aguero (Jaruco, tomo IV, pag 394) we found this data you could add as an appendix or footnote reference for Conde de Jaruco's "Historia de Familias Cubanas" on Tomo I, pag. 13 in the Agramonte section, and Tomo IV, pag. 98 in the Betancourt section. In the 30 Dec 1870 USA Federal Census in New York, New York you can find the following Agramonte women living together in the same household: Agramonte, Mercedes female age 45 b ca. 1825 madre; Betancourt, Dolores female age 15 b ca. 1855 hija; Loynaz, Filomena f. age 46 b ca. 1824 madre; Agramonte, Euridea(sp?) f. age 25 b ca. 1845 hija; Agramonte, Francisca f. age 16 b ca. 1854 hija; Agramonte, Mariana f. age 15 b ca. 1855 hija; Agramonte, Loreto f. age 15 b ca. 1855 hija. Mercedes Agramonte y Sanchez-Pereira and Ma. Filomena Loinaz y Caballero were two widows and sisters-in-law living together in the same household in NYC with their daughters as we show below. Agramonte y Loinaz. Los cuales: 1--don Enrique Valeriano Agramonte y Loinaz. 2--Licenciado Ignacio Agramonte y Loinaz. Nueva informacion: 3--Euridea(sp?) Agramonte y Loinaz, nacido circa de 1845. 4--Francisca Agramonte y Loinaz, nacido circa de 1854. 5--Loreto (Maria de Loreto ?quesas?) Agramonte y Loinaz, nacido circa de 1855. 6--Mariana Agramonte y Loinaz, nacido circa de 1855. (?las gemelas?) At a later date we also found that Dolores Betancourt (about 35 years of age) and Altagracia Agramonte (about 32 yoa) (possibly cousins?) arrived in NYC on the ship Seneca, 17 Jul 1895. In the 1870 census above Altagracia was not listed -- why not? Possibly, because she was still in her mother Mercede's womb, and had not been born yet at the time of the census? If her father don Ignacio had just died within a few months before the census was taken in 1870 -- as Conde de Jaruco says above about him: "Fallecio el 21 de agosto de 1869" then it is possible that her mother was pregnant when the census was taken. We know that age estimations in Censuses and Passenger Lists can vary easily by as much as /- 5 years or more so it is possible given her estimated age that she was the last daughter, and sister to the above Agramonte y Loinaz sisters and brothers. More information is needed to verify this, but we now suspect that Altagracia is also one of their daughters, If that is true then the following might go with the above: 7--Altagracia Agramonte y Loinaz, nacido circa de 1870. More Notes: (1) Conde de Jaruco spells their surname Loinaz but the USA Federal Census spells it Loynaz. (2) We found another passenger list for the ship Niagra where the mother Mercedes was traveling with her daughter Dolores, and it explicitly identifies them as being mother and daughter. (3) Notice the rather large 9 year gap between the ages of the two daughter's Euridea(sp?) and Francisca Agramonte y Loinaz. We suspect that there were more children -- possibly sons -- that were born within this time frame, too. (4) The spelling of "Euridea" is a guess because we could barely read her name in the original image of the census. This should probably be verified by others, and then corrected if it turns out that we are wrong about the spelling. We hope that this data may help others researching the Betancourt-Agramonte family of Camaguey. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
