    1. [CUBA] Pinar del Rio = Nueva Filipinas?
    2. Alex Hernandez
    3. Recently the branch of my family from Pinar del Rio was DNA tested for genealogical reasons and the genetic breakdown is: 70 something % Spanish 20 something % Moroccan 2% Columbian (Taino) And 1% Southeast Asian (Filipino) The Filipino really surprised us, but then I discovered that Pinar del Rio was originally Nueva Filipinas and has a large Filipino population that melted into the general Cuban population. (Unlike the Chinese immigrants that spoke Spanish and were Catholic so the assimilation was smoother.) It all made sense. I was wondering if any body had more information about Nueva Filipinas or Filipino-Cuban ansestry. Here’s a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinar_del_R%C3%ADo_Province Thank you, Alex
