He immigrated to Tampa, Florida around 1875. He married Dolores Vidal from the Canary Islands and had several children: Engracia, Ines, Ignacio, Angelo, Vicenta, Celia and Julio. The latter was my grandfather. Engracia, the first born, married a Sardinas (tilde on the n) who died quite young. All of the children were born in different parts of Florida (Tampa, Key West, Ocala, etc.). An interesting thing about the Tapanes family--there must have been impotence in the males, because only Ignacio and Julio had children. Ignacio's boys were both killed in the war. My grandfather had only one son, Julio Jr., who only had one daughter. My uncle Julio is very old now and is the last member of the male line of the Tampa Tapanes family.
