I also have a different account, but hope you find this. I am looking for the parents of Manuel Padron (my gr-grandfather), b. Dec 23, 1856 in Bueno Venturo Bejucal, Cuba, according to his Naturalization papers or Santiago de las Vegas -- records vary. Died 1885 in Key West, Monroe County Fl. He was naturalized Sept 22, 1886. He was married to Ursula, last name unk., listed on papers as 'wife, born 1854 Cuba. His children were Manuel Padron, Jr. b. July 29, 1873 in New York, d. Dec 7, 1932. Manuel Sr., labeled an "insurrectionist' in the 10 Years War (1868 - 1878) and is listed in the Library of Congress (El Grito de Yara). He was captured in 1872/1873. Also other supporting evidence of his capture by the Spanish--he was 17 years old, saved by British ship Niobe during what was called 'The Virginius Affair', then later 'dropped off' in New York, where he became a cigarmaker. His eldest son Manuel Jr., my grandfather, also became a cigarmaker. His next eldest son, Juan Luis Padron was a famous baseball player in the Cuban All Stars. If this helps and we can share, that would be great. I am still trying to find out the parents of Manuel Padron (Sr.), his wife Ursula's surname and parents. I have more info, if you write me we can see if there's anything in common. I was born in 1946 in NYC to Oscar Padron, born 1925 in Tampa Fl, d. Feb 22, 2006.
