Author: edragalonso Surnames: Alonso Quesada Classification: lookup Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.caribbean.cuba.general/1086.1223.3794.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My husband Miguel Angel Alonso Artieda died in 2008. Welived in Madrid. His father was Miguel Alonso Quesada, son of a diplomat stationed in Cuba who married a Quesada who had 5 children. The names that I remember are Damaso, Carmen Gloria,Cristina and Pedro.Miguel Alonso Quesada was born in Madrid, the older children were born in Cuba. A lot of property in Camaguey belonged to them, and I ofter heard that the Marques of Santa Lucia was married to a cousin. The poetisa Gertrudis Gomez de Avellaneda was a cousin and actually died in the home of Carmen Gloria Alonso Quesada in Madrid. Papers of properties in Camaguey also mention the name of the family Leaniz or something similar. I have the papers but have to look for them. I know that the name starts with L. Author: irhoffm Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.caribbean.cuba.general/513.615.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I would like to correct this posting. I am Antonio Miguel Alcover y Beltran's grandaughter and Antonio Miguel Alcover y Jaume was not his father but his grandfather. This man came to Cuba from Mallorca and established a family in Sagua La Grande. My grandfather's father was called Jose Luis Alcover. My grandfather was only married once and not to Micaela Delgado Llerena as stated. He married my grandmother Nieves Franch y Nin (from Barcelona) when he was very young, had three children (my mother being one)and also died very young at age 40 and still married to my grandmother. My grandfather had many siblings and two are mentioned in this posting. The rest of the information is correct. He was a historian and a writer and wrote many books. His most important being La Historia de Sagua la Grande. I hope this clarifies the information provided. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. We know that our grandparents lived and died in Oriente, Cuba. We immigrated to the US in 1960, (our parents, my brother and I) My brother did research once and discover we come from the Portuguese and not the Spanish. Other answers I've gotten seem to indicate that during the Inquisition Jews that were forced to convert and leave their country, immigrated to Jamaica and then to Cuba. This is the first I hear about Proenzas from the Canaries...thanks for writing..good luck with your search..... Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
