My grandparents came to Tampa from Cuba in the early 1900s. Their names were Virgilio and Isabella Vega Pino. I do not know anything else about the family other than that. Do you have any information on that line? My father, who passed away on Oct. 1, 2003, was born in Tampa. He has two sisters who still live in Tampa, but other than a few immediate cousins, I do not know anything about the Pino family. If you know of anything about my grandparents, I certainly would appreciate the information! Thanks. AU86LJP@aol.com

Surnames: Papy, Pappy, Papi Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/kRC.2ACE/5438 Message Board Post: In the 1800s a number of Cubans with the surname "Papy" immigrated to the United States - primarily Florida. Is there a connection of any kind with these Papy" immigrants to the Papy family of St. Augustine, Florida? The St. Augustine Papy's descend from Greek immigrant Gaspar Papi (1751-1817) and his Minorcan wife, Ana Pons (1762-1835). Both Gaspar & Ana were survivors of the ill-fated Turnbull Colony at New Smyrna, Florida. When the colony disbanded in 1777, Gaspar & Ana fled to nearby St. Augustine where they settled, prospered and died.Their descendants are numerous. A merchant in St. Augustine, it is possible Gaspar had business dealings in Cuba as both Florida & Cuba were Spanish possessions the latter part of his life. A Papy family history/genealogy is in the works. Any assistance would be tremendously appreciated. Sincerely, Greg C. White 3101 Mills Ridge Drive Canton, Georgia 30114 USA
