My Riveron family came from Cuba to the U.S. They lived in Miami, FL. I was not raised with my biological father so I haven't much info. He went by Raul. I beleive his name was Jesus Raul Riveron. His father may have been Raul too. He had a sister Maria. She had 2 daughters, the oldest was AnneMarie. What is the lineage of this family? From what part of Cuba? Where did they come to Cuba from? Is the Fr. Riveron named a Bishop by Pope John Paul II in Cuba part of this family line?

    1. Re: [CUBA-L] Re: DIAZ - Pinar del Rio, Cuba
    2. There is (or was) a very large Diaz family in Pinar del Rio. Check a small town call Punta de la Sierra. Family that i knew there were Segundo Diaz and all of his children, Maria Diaz, Tomasa Diaz. They had tobacco plantations right on top of the Sierra and on Oct 03, 1956 (year might be wrong) they built a small church "Santa Teresa, righ there. I can remember much because i was very young but my mother that came to Havana as a very young child was related to the Diaz. Also ck the church in Pinar were they were all baptized. I wish I could be of any help but I though i could give you some hints. Most of these descendants were living in Miami, if they are alive. What I can tell you is that Punta de la Sierra is a beautiful place at the end of the Cordillera de los Organos, Regards, Georgina Zayas, Miami

    1. Re: [CUBA-L] Jenrette
    2. Hello, I live in South Carolina and can confirm the existence of at least one very large and prominent Jenrette family in this state. There was a Congressman from South Carolina in the 1970Žs, John Jenrette, who became nationally famous when charges of corruption were brought against him as a result of the Abscam corruption investigation. He and his wife at the time, Rita, were the focus of several media outlets for a while back then. I would not be surprised at all to find a genealogical connection between the Jenrettes here and Jenrettes in Cuba. One important historical connection between South Carolina and Cuba can be traced back to migration from Haiti/Saint-Domingue to Cuba, and from Cuba to Louisiana, Savannah, and Charleston during the first half of the 19th century. If you do a Google or Yahoo search for Jenrette and "South Carolina" you will probably find enough information to be able to contact members of the Jenrette family here who may be able to help you with genealogical information. Good luck, Margarita > Does anyone know how I can find out the history of a Cuban male by the last name > of Jenrette (or a variation of the spelling) who owned or was part of upper > management of the New York Macy's during the 1950's? > > > --------------------------------- > Do you Yahoo!? > Friends. 2. I am familiar with the town, Teresa. My maternal great great grandfather Robert Waugh, who lived and died in Cuba in 1877, lived there during the U.S. Civil War. The town is near New Iberia, and it is spelled Jeanerette. Saludos, Jorge.

    1. Re: [CUBA-L] Jenrette
    2. Jenrette, Jeanerette, and Jenerette is a French-Swiss surname. I have not found a listing in any of my Cuban references. Interesting to note that according to the the Social Security Death records and White Pages search over 70% of Jenrette's in the United States are found in the states of North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. Macy's was founded by Rowland Jussey Macy in 1858 (R.H.Macy & Co. 1877) and merged in 1994 with Federated. Closely held company. A famous NYC Jenrette was Richard Jenrette, born in Raleigh, NC, and founder of the investment banking firm of Donaldson, Lufking & Jenrette in 1959. The firm was acquired by Credit Suisse in 2000.

    1. O'Farrill
    2. Oswaldo Hernandez
    3. I did not know that my cousin Ricardo's grandmother's second last name was O'Farrill. My cousin says that according to well-known history writer, Hugh Thomas, in his books (3) titled Cuba: The Pursuit of Freedom, in the XIX Century the O'Farrills were among the six most notable families of the island. Apparently, the O'Farrills are Irish royal origin, and he spoke to me about that an O'Farrill, who was Minister of War of Spain, when Fernando VII was king, and Spain was under the power of Napoleon, when offered a nobility title stated that he could not accept such a title, because royalty did not accept nobility titles. This I understand might be the case with one of my last names, de Hita. My cousin also told me that according to Hugh Thomas, the first Cuban president, Tomás Estrada Palma, and five more Cuban presidents have had the O'Farrill ascendancy. My cousin Ricardo and I talk a lot, even when we are far away. I hope this information might guide you some. Oswaldo F. Hernández Campos Dahlonega, Georgia
