Surnames: Troche, Ponce De Leon, Sanchez Classification: Census Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kRC.2ACE/4709.1 Message Board Post: Dear Ms. Troche: I found the following information on: Abelino Troche Last Residence: 00619 Bayamon, Bayamon, Puerto Rico, United States of America Born: 23 Apr 1912 Died: Jul 1973 State (Year) SSN issued: New York (Before 1951 and on: Agripino Troche Last Residence: 11237 Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United States of America Born: 17 Dec 1944 Died: 26 Oct 2002 State (Year) SSN issued: Puerto Rico (1960 ) The Troche name is common in Puerto Rico. In fact, there were two JUAN TROCHEs in Yauco, in the Social Security Death index. You do not mention possible dates of births or give the full name, including mother's name, so it is difficult to do the research. I can tell you that, in the 1910 United States census, all but 9 of the 591 TROCHEs were in Puerto Rico. Three of those were in Hawaii, one in Chicago, one in Ohio, one in Pennsyvania. 54 lived in Yauco, Yauco, Puerto Rico. As far as the descent from Ponce de Leon, there is a posting on Ancestry World Tree indicating that a Garcia Troche DE MONROY Sex: M Name: Garcia TROCHE Birth: in Olmedo, Spain Death: 1540 married a: Marriage 1 Juana Ponce DE LEON According to the Spanish-American Family History Guide, however, the TROCHE surname is unique to BOLIVIA. I am researching as well military records, and can assist you with that if you provide birth date information. My grandfather was born in Puerto Rico as well, and I am researching the SANCHEZ y TROCHE family of Yauco, Puerto Rico. Cordially, Ines Diaz-Owen
