The Villavicencio name, whether Fernandez de or as we are Nunez de are the same thing. Villavicencio is the name of the noble villa of Villavicencio which began being used in the 13th century. Our ancestor Garci Ferrans was notably mowed down by a battalion of Moorish axe men while leading a squadron of Castllian & Leones knights. Alfonso VIII, seeing this flurry of activity surrounding his close friend, immediately rushed over with some of his men to take out the remaining moors. Garci was seriously injured. King Alfonso got on his knees and placed his royal hands in Garci's armor in order to cover his deep wounds. Whence his hands were removed they were blood red, hence the image of the five bloodied fingers on the family crest your dad saw a picture of. As far as Alfonso Nunez de Villavicencio y Stewart? He lived a few in the 17th/18th centuary and El Cid Campeador's (aka Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar) legendary reconquests of Spain agai! nst the saracens (moors, arabs and the like) occurred between about 1070 and prior to his death in 1099. El es el ultimo de mi linea que aparece en el Libro de Familias Cubanas. El tema este de los de Luisiana, aunque vinieron en mas o menos la misma epoca, no tengo noticia de los nuestros NdV pasando a Luisiana. Sabeis que la senora del primer NdV (Dona Mência Dias de Clavijo Llerena) del Libro de Familias Cubanas, enviudo y se caso con vasco y tubieron un hijo que e conocido como el 'Apostol de Brasil' (http://copacabana.com/r-anch.shtml http://ingeb.org/songs/anchieta.html http://www.novomilenio.inf.br/festas/anchiet0.htm ) Los datos constan con la fecha de nacimiento y su llegada a Coimbra (Portugal) para estudiar con su hermano mayor Pedro Nunez de Villavicencio.     3. I have just finished adding over 700 names of the LEDON family from Santa Clara to my family tree. You can browse the tree and look for any surnames of interest by going to http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/ and typing "ed_elizondo" for the name of the database. The data was obtained from a Ledon-Noriega genealogy booklet, published in 1946, which was brought from Cuba. Unfortunately the booklet has no dates, only names and relationships. ~~~~ Acabo de terminar añadiendo mas de 700 nombres de la familia LEDON de Santa Clara a mi arbol familiar. Pueden revisar el arbol y buscar los apellidos de interes visitando a http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/ y poniendo "ed_elizondo" como nombre de la base de datos. Los datos fueron obtenidos de un folleto de la genealogia de la familia Ledon-Noriega, publicado en 1946, que fue traido de Cuba. Blas Manuel Betancourty Agüero se caso dos veces en la villa de Pto. Principe : la primera vez en la Soledad el 17 de enero de 1791 con Isadora Varona y Varona . El segundo matrimonio fue el 3 de marzo de 1816 en la Catedral de Pto. Principe con Doña Rosalia Recio. No aparecen aqui notas de hijos. Todo parece indicar que pertenecemos a la misma rama. I just came from a Creole Heritage Educational Research Society in New Orleans this past weekend, and the Mistress of Ceremonies was a lady by the name of Gwendolyn Bordenave from New Orleans, La. I don't know if there would be a connection for you, but it would be worth a try. If you are interested in getting in contact with her, I will try and get her e-mail address for you.I am also looking for info on a branch of De Silva's from the Dominican Republic.Is the Name DeSilva familiar with anyone on this list? I met this young lady at the CHERS conference in New Orleans and she was asking for help in researching her De Silva family. It would have his parents and relatives listed. I have recently moved and cannot lay my hands on it right now. I made copies because my mother remembered him well.
