CAREFUL to distinguish both: Sometimes the name "Recio" stood by itself as a regular surname other times it was compounded with their regular surname. I have since learnt that de "Recio de" (Leon) was an addition to their regular name when they paid the government to be a Mayorazgo (distinctive title). Example: if your family inherited the Mayorazgo of the Leon family, the name would become "Recio de Leon"......therefore the Recio would take a "life of it's own"

First he married November 26, 1789 in the Cathedral of Havana with Maria Isabel del Rosario Sotolongo Morales (1771-1793) daughter of Baltasar Sotolongo Gonzalez de Carvajal and Maria de los Dolores Morales GONZALEZ DE CARVAJAL. Then he remarried Feb.2, 1798 at the Cathedral of Havana with María de los Dolores SOTOLONGO SARAVIA (1779), daughter of José María SOTOLONGO GONZALEZ DE CARVAJAL and María Catalina de Jesús SARAVIA PALMA-VELOSO. The two wifes were first cousins...granddaughters of Agustín SOTOLONGO PEREZ DE LAS ALAS and Inés GONZALEZ DE CARVAJAL POVEDA. And they were also cousins of Manuel.

You might try the US Archives. My grandmother died at about the same time. Her death was reported to the US Embassy. After a certain amount of time (don't know how long) the State Dept. turns the records over to the Archives. I found the report of her death (not exactly a death certificate) at the Archives in DC, though thy might have those records in College Park, MD now. Dear listers, Joaquim Boy y Deulofeu emigrated from Catalonia to Cuba around 1840 and founded the Banco Boy. He married Rafaela RABASSA de la LASTRA, born in La Habana from a Catalan father. I am looking for their date of marriage and Rafaela's birth date. Any information on the Banco boy would be also appreciated. Joaquim made a fortune in Cuba and returned to Catalonia. In 1861 he purchased the castle of the Marquis of Aguilar and Earl of Montagut near the city of La Bisbal D'Emporda. Nowadays, this castle is a magnificent hotel restaurant: www.castelldemporda.com.
