The Tomas REYES and Blanca GUTIERREZ named in your message, below, were her great grandparants. They lived in Key West, Florida. I would appreciate hearing from you regarding these people, whom I am researching. My e-mail address is gretasgarden@htn.net. Thank you, so much! <The Mira family was represented in Key West as early as 1830/1840s. My maternal great-great grandmother (my maternal grandfather's grandmother) was Manuela Mira, a resident of Key West prior to 1850. She married Julio Guiterrez. They had several daughters, one was Blanca who married Tomas Reyes. They in turn had numerous children, one of whom was my grandfather, Hector Reyes. He often spoke of being related to the Miras (but we never paid much attention at the time!). They were all life-long residents of Key West. I was born and raised in Key West simultaneously with George Mira & his younger brother Jimmy (The 1950s-60s) though slightly younger. George, in fact, married the first cousin of the huband of my first cousin. I'm always interested in degrees of separation. Would love to hear from any Key West/Tampa connections to Reyes, Guiterrez, Fraga, Canalejo, Mira, Lopez, Macia, Sola, Valdez. Most dominant migration appears to have been both Spain to Cuba to Key West & Tampa; and Spain directly to Key West. Regards, Jose' M. Valdez>

Surnames: Martinez Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kRC.2ACE/5602 Message Board Post: Hi, I'm looking for any information on my grandfather's last name, Martinez, his first name was Eulalio. He was born Feb. 1919 in Cuba (sorry, I don't know which city) and migrated to the states with his family around the 60's or 70's. Sorry, I don't know exactly when or what his relatives' names are. My grandmother never told me and my mother is fuzzy on that information. My grandfather died when I was 5 so I never got to know him and that's why I'm doing this. My grandmother was Felipa Triana Toledo. I don't know which surname belongs to her father or mother. She was born in Aug. 1921 and they were married in Cuba. I think she's from Regla and/or Havana and they had two children. My mother, Nieves M. Martinez (born Aug. 1945) and Francisco R. Martinez (born Apr. 1947). Whatever family I do have left is not very good at keeping in touch or sharing family history. I'm not too sure what to do to find anything like this out. This is just my mother's side to start with. My fath! er's side is a whole other story. If anyone knows how I can obtain any information on any of the surnames I've included here or if you know anything of them. Please e-mail me at angel_love@rocketmail.com. Thank you very much for your time. Ali

The only info I have about my grat grandmother is that her name was Teresa Leiva and was born in Camarones (I think in Las Villas) between 1850 and 1855 and she married my great grandfather Nadal Ferragut (from Palmas de Mallorca). Teresa's parents were Jose Jesus Leiva y Maria de la Concepcion Rangel (they were cubans but I don't know from what city or province). Maybe a relationship exists but I can't be certain). It will be nice to keep contact and maybe we can find some common point in our ancestors. Happy Holidays to you and your family, Ulises (uferragut@aol.com)

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/kRC.2ACE/653.868.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks for the information, Rene. I already know that my paternal grandmother was Cuban. The surname Acebal, however, is not of Cuban origin, since her parents came to Cuba from Spain. In more recent research I have done, it seems the name may actually have originated in Asturias, rather than the Basque region, as I originally thought. Since the name is so rare, and since you are from Cuba, I wonder if we may be distant relatives.

Louis VIALET was a tailor and had children (not sure if married) with Catalina MONTERRA. I know at least two of their children were named Alfredo VIALET and Louis VIALET. I am told their were other Vialet's from this family living in Cuba, and that their ancestors were from Haiti. I believe this family might be connected to my Vialet family of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. We believe our VIALET ancestors were also from Haiti. Anyone interested in this line, or has any information to share, please contact me at CaribbeanKingdom (yahoo). I have a family Web site with lots of info too.
