Anyway, I'll start with my paternal grandmother. Maybe you'll recognize some of these people or something. Her name was Blanca, and she was born in Oriente. She had several siblings, including Marcelino, Mercedes ("Chela"), Leonor, Luz Divina, and Cristina. I think that's about it. Their mom's name was Dolores, I believe. I'm blanking on the father's name. Do any of these names ring a bell? Some of the offspring of the Acebal family include Manolo, Lolita, Tatico (I can't recall his real name), Mercedes ("Chelita"), Jesus ("Nene"), Pepe, Blanquita, Lourdes, Cristina ("Carun"), Lucita, Maria Dolores ("MariLola"), Francisco ("Paco"). Any of these names familiar to you? Some of these folks are actually deceased, but most are still alive and well in Miami and New Jersey.

I'll have to check Mariela's post as well. Me parece que posiblemente no debemos de llamar primo. Chances seem pretty good that Evaristo de Iduate y Petit and Pedro Iduate Petit were brothers. Otherwise, it seems too much of a coincidence that Pedro Iduate Petit's father is named Evaristo. I'm not sure if the dates match up, though. My father says that he recalls an Armando Iduate that used to be around the house in Havana with my grandfather's brother back in the day. I don't know if your family might know him too. I'm also in Miami. If we find that we're related, it'd be nice to meet some more family. I'll try to dig a little more on my end over the holiday, when everyone is together. Hope you and your family have a great holiday. Saludos, Robert

His name was Jose Elias Milanes and was a dentist who I believe studied in Spain. He lived in New Orleans. I don't know how direct the connection might be to your family or if there were just many people with this name from that area, especially if they were slave descendants. The name might have more to do with the owners than the family relationships.

Collins, When I click on your name it gives me an email address, with your permission I would like to send you some photos. I do not own a scanner so I cannot send the one of my father, however his grandson my son John is the mirror image of my father. As well my father looked exactly like my grandfather, they were known for being blond and green / blue eyed. My uncles were of darker hair and eye color. I spoke with my grandmother tonight, she is 98 but remembers the past like yesterday. According to her my grandfather Modesto Guillermo Castellanos Rodriquez had parents who came from the Canary Islands, he was born in Cuba and had brothers and sisters in Limonar. But he would never speak of them, my father never spoke of his uncles or aunts either. For some reason there seemed to have been either a rift in this family, or as you said due to distance contact was lost. Either case my grandmother could not get information out of my grandfather, he would just say he was a simply farmer from Limonar. Although he was a successful farmer and well known. My mother was taken to Havana shortly after her marriage to my father, to visit an uncle of my fathers. However my mother who's memory is not good, does not remember his name and met him only once. I don't believe it would be this Nicolas Castellanos, a man that was a Mayor would be remembered, I would think by my mother. So I have no more information, I only have my mother and grandmother left and I have no siblings. We could be connected but I would not be able to provide any proof. Unless we all have a remarkable resemblance, I look very much like the Castellanos side in features. It is remarkable to have a Domingo Castellanos Rodriquez and a Modesto Castellanos Rodriquez from the very same town, and not have any connections between the two. I wish I had more, it would be such a pleasure to find that your family and mine were one and the same. I will send you the photo of my son John, perhaps you will find something there. And if not well Castellanos is a wonderful name that I have always been proud off and wish we could all find what we are searching for.

Has hecho tu tarea bien! Mi abuelo, "Francisco Iduate Grau" nacio en 1889, hijo de Carlos Iduate Del Valle y Sofia Grau Pouble. I show on the tree my father drew (pardon for switching to english) that Sofia Grau Pouble is the daughter of Francisco Grau Cuervo and Octavia Pouble Rose. Francisco Grau Cuervo is the son of Francisco Grau Deu & Teresa Cuervo Gomez. Octavia Pouble Rose is the daughter of Agustin Pouble Lapacrie & Josefa D. Rose. Carlos Iduate del Valle is the son of Pedro Iduate Petit and Monserrate Del Valle Daumi. Pedro Iduate Petit is the son of Evaristo Iduate Gurrendiay and Teresa Petit Rodain. Evaristo Iduate Gurendiay is the son of Luis Iduate and Teresa Gurrendiay that puts us back to approx. 1790 around when Luis was born. That's as far back as I have on my dad's side other than that in Spain we can trace the name to an original basque village on the other side of the hill east of Pamplona called IDOATE. Bes! ides that, it should be relatively simple to link back to the future from the 1390 date listed in the king's tax rolls to the half page of Idoate's in the phone book, and given that one of the oficial "archiveros de la ciudad de Pamplona" was named Don Florencio Idoate. My grandfather, Franciso Iduate Grau married Emerenciana Andux y Guell. They had 5 children Carlos Miguel Iduate Andux, Gonzalo Iduate Andux, Fermin Iduate Andux (my father), Juan Iduate Andux, and Francisco Iduate Andux. I don't know too much about my grandfather's brother, Carlos Iduate Grau. I have my mother's tree back to 1510 in Guipuzcoa (San Sebastian area of Spain) for Mendiola. Hope this helps. I live in Miami, Florida, where are you? Saludos, FermÃn
