I don't know the names of the general's parents but i think he was born at Placetas. Looking at the Diccionario Biografico Remediano and at Hilda Pomares' pages i see there were quite a few Monteagudos at or near Remedios, back in the 1700s. There may have a few lines in the XIX century. Juan

    1. Re: [CUBA-L] Cabrerizo and Brito families in Guane
    2. Hi Mike, Interesting information regarding the town of Guane and any possible connection with the Canary Islands. My great great great grandmother was Bernarda Cabrerizos Ramos married to someone by the last name Diaz. We know of only one daughter Rufina Diaz Cabrerizos who married Salvador Jorda, whose daughter was named Maria Jorda Diaz and married my great greatgrandfather Antonio Suarez-Solis Fernandez from Asturias and from this marriage there were 3 girls, Antonia, Rosa and Josefa and one boy my greatfather Pablo Suarez-Solis Jorda, who died in 1913 leaving land in and around Dimas and Mantua. All these lands were administered for the Suarez Family by a gentlemen of the last name of LLorente. He was in charge of the administration of these fincas until Fidel Castro where my family lost communication with him. This "finca" was named Pueblo Nuevo, but there were other fincas like Cayo Redonde, Los Cocos, Varona, etc. Any information would be most greatly appreciated. Or if th! ere is way to get in touch with Mr Ramos. Thanks again for the information you provided.Hope to hear from you,Maria Hiersfivehiers@aol.com

She never married. Their mother was Crescencia Navarro y Silva, from Matanzas. She was first married to ?. Monteagudo. Crescencia's second husband was Santiago Bernardino y Esteban, from Madrid. The couple died together in an accident. I wonder if this Mary Monteagudo could be related to the Monteagudo's that have been discussed lately on the forum. Thank you! Toni

In fact, I met Maria Quinones once when I was a child. Because my grandmother was very close to her two daughters (Maria and Esther or "Luli" and "Bebita"), we've also been close to that side of the family. I'd really love to dig into the past, though, and trace the Monteagudo line back as far as I can. If they go back 200 years in Santa Clara and Remedios, then hopefully, I'll be able to put some things together. Thanks again!

    3. I am looking for information on the following famies: the Cabrerizo, Alvarez and Brito, in Guane, Pinar de Rio. Historian Victor Hilario Ramos says the first inhabitants of the town of Guane were brought there from the Canary Islands by the Captains Nicolas Noble and Arcadio Linares. These islenos were given land that belonged to the Capt. Pedro Alvarez Oñate. Any additional information on any of this would be most welcome. regards and thanks, Mike --------------------------------- Découvrez le nouveau Yahoo! The brother, Mauricio, was a lawyer, and a fiscal during the early years of the Cuban republic. He became a member of the Tribunal Supremo, and if i am not confused, its president at one point. I don't remember if he had children. Maria married young to Enrique Quinones Rojas, a coronel in the Cuban army. They lived in Havana for the most part. Enrique died many years ago, i don't remember if before 1959. Maria left for US a few years later. We visited her a few times here. We also visited her two daughters, Maria and Esther. Maria was the mother of Jose Antonio Villamil, an economist. He was undersecretary of Commerce in a previous administration. Juan

I was checking the information from my mother and what i found out while digging up some genealogical information. Mom saw Justina a couple of times, when she visited Cuba. She did not meet her father who died in 1911, if i am not mistaken. The story says that he had gone to some medical baths, i think at San Antonio de Los Baños or Elguea and drown while swimming there. >From what i have seen in the books, he was quite an important figures, as he became the chief of the army after 1901. He had been a general of the Ejercito Libertador. There are some short biographies I can dig up. I don't remember exactly where he was born, but it was in Las Villas. His second surname was Consuegra. His family had been in the area already for over 200 years before his birth, at Santa Clara and Remedios. It is mentioned in Familias Cubanas but not described directly. There are almost just enough information to put together a tree.

He was born in Santiago de Cuba circa 1906. He was the youngest of abotu seven siblings so your father could have been my grandfather's nephew. Carbonell is a Spanish name, not a Cuban one. Antonio's father was directly from Spain. So, the chances are that your father is closely related to my grandfather. Do you know any names of your father's family?
