Saludos.

Miguel Ramos and Antonia Cruz are listed as parents of his grandfather, Lorenzo Ramos, who died in Tampa, FL. I find no records indicating that Miguel & Antonia ever came to the USA, but Lorenzo called his father MIKE Ramos on his application for a Social Security number. Lorenzo also stated he was born in Key West, FL on Social Security papers, Cuba on census records, & his son gave his birthplace as Canary Islands on his death certificate. If you have any information on this Ramos and Cruz family, please email me & post reply here. Many thanks, Jan (Wilson) Ramos

Surnames: Abraham, Abrahantes, Heisler-Samuels, Obejas, Kahn Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/kRC.2ACE/4718.3 Message Board Post: Look at http://www.suegersten.com/cuba/stone_list.htm where you will see the Hebrew Cemeteries of Cuba and Jewish families burried there. Also look at www.Sephardim.com where you will find: Abraham(*)(19a)(22)(25)(29)(35)(40) and Abrantes de(8) etc..... Even in this site, look up "Sephardic" and you will find a world of information. As you may know, the Spanish Inquisition displaced many Jews from Spain and Portugal and many fled to other lands especially to Canary Islands and then Cuba. In the book "Jews of the Canary Islands" p. 216 says "Miguel took the name of Joseph when he embraced Judaism, and was known as Joseph da Costa Alvarenga...wife was Abigail de Payba...among his descendants were branches of the Treves and Furtado families...Major G.ABRAHAM of the League of Nations." Other interesting books: The last Minyan in Havana by Betty Heisler-Samuels , "Days of Awe" by Achy Obejas and "The History of the Jewish Colony in Cuba" by Jeffrey A. Kahn

There is a long line of Buxo in La Bisbal, Girona. One of them moved to Gibara and then Santiago de Cuba in the mid to late 1860;s where he met the grimany family. Salvador Buxo married Merce Grimany in Torroella de Montgri in 1869, they had three children. In a message dated 3/3/2005 9:17:28 AM Eastern Standard Time, lillyfajardo@msn.com writes: I have in my family a Dolores Diaz that died of a cough related illness. My family keeps saying it was tuberculosis. around 1922. No one in my family knows the exact date. I show she was married to a Bienvenido Leyva whom had a Rafaela Leyva Diaz in 1912 or 1913. Bienvenido moved the family to Banes Holguin after the death of his wife. It's probably just a quincidence in the name. Let me know anyways how it trun out and if you have any other information on those two last names. Lilly, I do not have those particular names, but although my maternal side was from Banes, my paternal Leyva's were from Holguin. Martha
