(Escribanos wrote accounts of doings, accounts of everything that happened in the Colonies, including births, deaths, promotions. grants of lands, appointments by the provincial governors, etc. They wrote their Actas (documents) in 5 copies, and these were distributed to the differente Archives. 1 to de Archives of Indies, 1 to the Vice-Roy, 1 to the Province, 1 to the "interested parties" and 1 (sometimes, remained in the book of the notary: "anotador". The Archivo Histórico Militar in Segovia would have that information if I can remember correctly.  That's where a few years ago I found the record for my ancestor, who was a Lt. Colonel, and who fought against the Mambises during the Ten Year War (1868-1878).  However, if you are in the Miami area, the Spanish-Cuban Section of the Richter Library, at the University of Miami, in Coral Gables, has the files of the Ejercito de las Américas (Americas Army of the Spanish Army), which should also have the file that you're looking for.   Oswaldo F.
