We haven't seen each other in years. I will email cousin Marcella and ask her to give you my email address as I don't want to post it publicly. It would be great to reconnect, catch up and to share information. We may be able to fill in some information gaps and it would save a lot of time. I just saw our cousin last Friday when she came into NY. Cousin Margaret Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am trying to determine the correct first name and maiden name and birthdate for his wife. My cousin thinks it may have been Mary Connell. Did this Celestine Vichot have a son Thomas who was born in 1888? If so this may be the same Thomas who married Anna Mahon, my grandmother's sister. I have more information on Anna's ancestors. Email me and see if we are related...you may be one of my cousin Jimmy's nieces. According to the book Carlos J Finlay His Life and His Work by Jose Lopez Sanchez: your Edurado born in Port of Spain in 1831 and died in Havana, November 10, 1911 was brother to Juan Carlos, born 1833. His father was Edward Finlay, born in Hull on October 9, 1795 and died in Havana July 1, 1872. He married Isabelle de Barres born in Port of Spain in 18ll. Other siblings are Guillermo Enrigue, Maria Isabel, Maria Lusia (her great granddaughter has replied to this site, Enrigue Felipe (my husband's great grandfather) who came to New York and Roberto. The Finlays that came to the States in 1880 were fairly close as they all seemed to live near one another and traveled back and forth to Europe and Mexico. Check out passenger lists --I have found a lot there. We are thrilled to find relatives as my husband's dream is to go to Havana sometime. By any chance do you live in New Jersey? Seems as though the first Finlay's here lived in New York and then New Jersey. My husband's siblings live in NJ or Conn. while we live in NH. If you would like I will send you pictures of our Finlays, but I would need your email address. We think my husband resembles Juan Carlos so we would love to see any pictures on your side. My email is dhfinlay@hotmail.com. I will look on line,as well as check my notes from my father-in-law and see what I can find. Great to have a new Finlay cousin!!!! Hope this brings smiles to your mother-in-laws face. Can't wait to hear from you again. Diane Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: kiduba Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.caribbean.cuba.general/384.1.1.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, I am very interested in finding out about the Finlay's and a connection to my husband's family -- Morales. My mother-in-law, Maria Elena Morales, was born in Cuba. She is an only child, no other living relatives other than her sons, and has very few genealogy records, but has always said that the family is related to Juan Carlos Finlay (Carlos Juan Finlay, the famous doctor and Malaria "founder"). She was told that her Dad's mother and Carlos were brother and sister. I am having trouble finding a connection if any. This is what I know about the Finlay/ Morales Connection: Maria's father was Roberto Morales y Finlay born in 1897 in En Ciudad de Mexico. Roberto's parents were Francisco Morales and Alicia Morales y Finlay Francisco was a famous architect and engineer and designed the train terminal in Habana like Grand Central Station in NYC. Evidentally, there's also a plaque honoring his accomplishment. He also was a founder of the Habana Yatch Club, which we had a lifetime membership to. Alicia was French and Irish. They had a house on 5th Avenue and she would spend the major part of the school year there while Roberto was in Manlius Military Academy near Syracuse and his sisters (Lucila Morales, Finlay and Alicia Morales, Finlay) were at Marymount on the Hudson. She died in NYC when she developed pnemonia. Roberto's grandparents were Eduardo Finlay and Maria Luisa Navarrete. I do not have anything beyond Eduardo. If you know anything about Eduardo Finlay and family history earlier than him, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, of course, if you can provide some help as to how Carlos Juan (or Juan Carlos) fits in, I would greatly appreciate it -- my mother-in-law also. She would be thrilled to know other family exists! Best, Margaret Heifferon Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
