I gave you some of our relatives MAYA names to complete part of your family tree. How have you been? I was wondering how far you've come with your family tree and if Ancestry.com has helped. I would really like to get more answers on our family from Silivri and Istanbul. I have made a connection in Istanbul, but so far they have not given me much info. I actually found these also Googling around after I read your last message but I wasn't sure this was it. I can speak and read Spanish; not perfectly but I can get by. I don't have anything on his parents. I have that his first wife was Quintina Ortiz (is that correct?). I also remember my mom telling me about the second and that they all got along well. I signed up for the 14-day free trial with ancestry... I'm going to see if I can link our trees up (not sure how that works). My grandfather ran an amusement park that traveled between Playa Santa Fe (Havana) and Candelaria (they referred to it as "los caballitos"). I have a couple of old pictures of him when he was younger that I digitized; if you like I can send them to you. I'm going to send you a message privately with my email address. Let me know if you would like me to send the pics. Maria. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I guess we have similar DNA :-). My family comes from Carlos Lorente the youngest son of Juan Lorente de la Rosa (First Marriage). Having travel to Cuba many times I met two of his sisters. Also all the children from both families got along well. His older brother had 54 children in Oriente and recognize them all as well... Here is a couple of Links to the Museum: I hope you know Spanish... http://www.ecured.cu/index.php/Museo_Municipal_de_Candelaria http://www.candelaria.pinarte.cult.cu/htm/Investigaciones.htm Do you have information on the parents of Juan Lorente de La Rosa and or beyond? I thought I would give you some more information. I'm curious who your grandma is and how she is related to de la Rosa. My name is Maria. My father was Julio Cesar and his father was Juan Manual (son of de la Rosa from his first wife). I grew up with an uncle Cheo (Jose Ramon) who was actually my father's uncle although a year younger (also son of de la Rosa from his second wife); my mom says he was 72 when Jose was born. My dad said growing up they called his grandfather "Juanico". My mom also says the youngest of de la Rosa's daughters was Migdalia and she knew of another, Panchita (he had many children). Do you know what the museum is called? and if it was made from his house or the farm house (my cousin said the last time he saw a picture of the Candelaria house it was practically in ruins but he had heard of a farm house but never saw it). I am very interested in talking more to you or your grandma about him. My dad didn't tell me he was against American intervention but I read in a history book I found online that there were two camps after the war (I forget what they called them), one that wanted complete independence including from America and one that welcomed America (kind of like in Iraq)... from what I read I did get the impression he was in the first camp. Given the time period I'm not surprised he was a slave owner. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am also related to him as well. I know in Cuba his house is a Museum. I dont know if your father told you he was against the American Intervention in Cuba's independence. That is why Fidel made the main house in Candelaria a Museum. My mom has his General Stars made out of gold and were given to him at the end of the Independence. Author: cristyherrero Surnames: Lozano Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.caribbean.cuba.general/4034.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: No, I'm sorry. My grandfather rarely talked about his family besides immediate family. His father's name was Bernardo and he had two sisters, Gladys and Manuela, I think, and two brothers, one named Eduardo, but unfortunately he wasn't very close to the other and not even my mother remembers his name. She said she could ask my grandmother's sister who might remember. My grandfather was born in 1928 and his grandfather came from Spain, Canary Islands, I think.
