Many families migrated from CT to New York and PA. The migration to western NY was North and then westward thru Pittsfield MA and then across the middle of NY State. Another route was down past NY City and then into PA. The following sites have a lot of genealogical information on families in NY and PA from around the late 1700's and into the 1800's. For instance, there is a note on Thomas Brown from Stonington which describes how a town in Bradford Co PA called Browntown was named after him. I didn't find my breakthrough but found the site pretty neat.
