This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Irvin or Johnson of Bozrah CT. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/XZ.2ADE/1445 Message Board Post: Does anyone have any information on this cemetary. There is a very interesting headstone of a William Irvin who died in 1872 he apparently committed suicide after killing his girlfriend who was the daughter of a Dr. Samuel Johnson the girls first name is Jane. He was 33 y.o.. His epitaph states that he was the murderer of this Jane. This headstone is quite far from other stones, and faces away to the woods. This cemetary is located in Bozrah, CT in the village of Gilman. I was hoping that someone might have some info. as this is one of those interesting stories. Thanks
I live in Bozrah and the story is true. This cemetery is now a bit large, and even to this day the grave is away from the others, facing the opposite direction. The locals also rumor that he may be buried upside down (facing hell). I think someone put the 1930's transcript online but if there is something specific you are looking for I can go down and look around. The cemetery is actually not in Gilman, it is off Schwartz Rd., about 5 minutes drive east of Gilman. The school children have been brought to the cemetery and retold the story by their teachers.
