Dear Mr. King, We had already exchanged ideas earlier, but I wanted to point out that the 1880 Census notes that Joseph was born in RI and that his parents where also born there. Does the 1860 and 1870 census say CT instead? Was he alive in 1900? I looked at the 1850 Census to see the state of birth and it can be regarded as State omitted or as a ditto from the previous family. So I looked at their oldest child Warren (10 in 1850) in the 1880 Census and it notes that he was born in RI as well as his mother. Keep in mind that the information may have been given by another family member too. Still you may want to check to see what the other children said and also do a search in RI. 1880 Census Place: Bozrah, New London, Connecticut Source: FHL Film 1254108 National Archives Film T9-0108 Page 536C Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace Joseph L. I found many in CONSULS. If you are looking to purchase your own copy, the CT State Library can tell you the microfilm manufacturer for a particular paper. If it is hard for you to come to CT, you may want to try the National Archives in Pittsfield, MA too. http://www.archives.gov/index.html Good Luck with your research.
