    2. Subject: Flu Date: Tue, 07 May 2002 09:33:05 -0700 From: [email protected] To: letterbox distribution <[email protected]> Hi, Emma, I have also been looking for info re: effects of the Influenza Epidemic in New London County, and although I haven't come up with any specific info, it was suggested I check at a large library for "Statistical Abstract of the United States" - I'm not near a large library, so haven't done so yet. I have also sent an inquiry to the newspaper, "The New London Day", as I've been told they covered the epidemic itself, and have done "Looking Back" articles, also - haven't had a response yet, and am sure if I had access to microfilms of issues of that time period, the info would be there! For general interest, the PBS website has info about the special they did on the "Influenza Epidemic of 1918-19" - it includes a map that animates the path of the epidemic in the U.S.; however, I think it must be pretty general. I started researching after receiving a death certificate for my great-grandfather, who died in Old Lyme, April 20, 1919, and learned he'd had pneumonia for 9 days, influenza for 10 days...I'd previously had no idea anyone in the family had died as a result of the epidemic. I'll be glad to share any info I come across - have planned to add it to the New London County List, and will hope anyone else who finds info will do the same. Good luck, Karlynn [email protected] wrote: > Subject: > > CTNEWLON-D Digest Volume 02 : Issue 101 > > Today's Topics: > #1 [CTNEWLON-L] Asa Jones/Hollister/W [[email protected]] > #2 [CTNEWLON-L] Flu Epidemic 1918ish ["letterbox distribution" <letterbo] > #3 [CTNEWLON-L] Re: Colchester birth [[email protected]] > #4 [CTNEWLON-L] Timothy OConnell [[email protected]] > #5 [CTNEWLON-L] Re: Eliza Gallup [[email protected]] > > Administrivia: > To unsubscribe from CTNEWLON-D, send a message to > > [email protected] > > that contains in the body of the message the command > > unsubscribe > > and no other text.
