Horace Clark Lamphear, who was in his day one to the best known captains plying Long Island Sound. > (1) George Lamphere (Landfear or Lamphere) was of Westerley, RI in 1669, in which year he purchased land there. He too the oath of allegiance to Rhode Island in 1671, and in that towwn "by the mill"was baptized in 1678. At this time he was a married man, but the name of his wife is unknown. He had 200 acres of land laid out to him in 1704. His death ocorred October 6, 1731.
