Yes Terry , Please send the scanned copies . I am so happy with your information as my Lamphere's were into working on ships and there were a lot of men named George and as you know, names tend to run in families . As for the spelling , it don't matter as it all depended on who was taking the censis or if the Lamphere could even read and write or if someone other then the person involved gave the information to the censis taker . There are even more reasons so I don't care about the spelling but I found that most of my info had the name as LAMPHERE . Thank You So Much Minnie -----Original Message----- From: firock@comcast.net Sent: Friday, September 22, 2006 2:51 PM To: ctnewlon@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [CTNEWLON] Lamphere sources Hi, I am just catching up, I have been sick. Feeling better now. From the book I have, page 193-196. Genealogical and Biographical Record of New London County, Connecticut. LANPHEAR-This family of New England has been most honorably represented by the late Capt. Horace Clark Lamphear, who was in his day one to the best known captains plying Long Island Sound. He too the oath of allegiance to Rhode Island in 1671, and in that towwn "by the mill"was baptized in 1678. At this time he was a married man, but the name of his wife is unknown. He had 200 acres of land laid out to him in 1704. His death ocorred October 6, 1731. His children were: Mary, Shadrach, John, Theodosius, Seth, Sarah Elizabeth and Richard, and one whose name is unknown, but married Eber Crandall. It goes on with the children, down to a Horace Palmer Lanphear, (notice the spelling) He was born November 17, 1850, in Westerly, RI He forst attended school in his native town and later in Groton, Conn., finally terminating his studies in the Barlett high school, New London which he left about fifteen years of age.
