Forwarding another request for help. Please respond to Kevin directly if you have a connection at [email protected] ******* Kevin's message: I sure hope you can help, since most of the Colonial records were destroyed in the Morris Co., NJ area. We are at a loss and a brickwall. My descendent was Aaron Douglass b. 1753, Chester area (Roxbury, Black River), Morris Co, NJ.. We are looking for his parents. A researcher of long ago said there was a connection (somehow) to the New London family. Robert Douglas and Mary Hempstead had a grandson named Joshua Douglass b. June 2, 1708. This Joshua abt 1745 and his family moved to the same immediate area as my Aaron. In 1741 there was a constable in Roxbury, NJ named William Douglass. We are wondering if this was Joshua's brother William b. 1710.,, and also the father of our Aaron Douglass. Aaron is on many lists together with Joshua Jr. and an unknown Thomas Douglass and an unknown William Douglass, and unknown James Douglass. I sure hope you can help or redirect me. Thank you for your consideration Kevin Berg - [email protected] - below are Notes, from a fellow descendent and researcher. The children of Joshua and Sarah: they were Joshua born 1735, married to Hannah, Sarah born 1737, married to Richard Fancher and David born 1744, all 3 children lived in NJ. Sarah's children were named Wm, John, Sarah, David, Joshua and Ephraim. The Joshua Jr was in Roxbury, Morris County. The Joshua born 1708 whose parents were Wm and Hannah, his grandfather was Robert Douglass married to Mary Hempstead and Robert's parents were William married to Ann Mattle, I have pretty complete information on this Douglass family but have been unable to make a connection to Aaron, although they lived close,-- ----------------------------- Aaron, and Joshua Jr and Thomas Douglass, both from Roxbury, Morris County were on the same voters list, I will have to look further to see which voters list she was talking about, but I see she also said that when the census takers went from door to door to list all males between 1752 and 1774 for service in the 1792 NJ militia, Aaron Douglass, William Douglass and James Douglass were all listed together. An old genealogy chart which was left by the Canadian Douglass ancestors said we were related to the Stephen Douglas, of the Lincoln debate fame. I see his ancestor William Douglass was married to Ann Matle. I have for Joshua shows his ancestor as Wm Douglass married to Ann Mattle, 2 t's but they must be the same!!!! This William died in New London, Conn in 1682. It just seems like a big coincidence that Joshua Jr comes from Wm and Ann Matle Douglass and then so did Stephen Douglas, then to top it off one of my ancestors said we came from this line !!! And my information on Joshua came from a lady in NJ and on Stephen Douglas from a librarian at a historical society in Mass. Aaron, we believe had a sisters named Abigail b. 1747 and Sarah b. Bet. 1752 - 1755. http://home.earthlink.net/~kevinjberg/genealogy.html
