He was the husband of Rebecca Ackley who died February 1744/45 in East Haddam. She was the daughter of Sgt. John Ackley and Rebecca Spencer. He married, second, Mary Darby, March 15, 1746/47 in Colchester. Mary died February 28, 1776 in Westchester, Colchester, New London, Connecticut. His children with Rebecca were Zephaniah, Amasa, John, Samuel, Esther, and Azariah. Here is some additional information to help identify John Mitchell: "Had land deeds in and around East haddam from 1729 to 1736 then the family appears in Colchester by 1740.
