don't know specifically abour your shoals family, but the fact that they ended up in windham is a clue - The History of Woodstock has 9 volumes one of which is loaded with genealogy of all the families in that area - in it I found info I've never seen anywhere else - I think those volumes are available in most connecticut town libraries - good luck!
